I'd have trouble listening to David Coverdale. Seems like a decent guy, but his voice sounds like it's gone.

Same with Jeff Keith from Tesla. Some of the recent stuff on youtube is brutal...

OTOH, I totally agree that Cory Glover still sounds AMAZING! And, personally, I think Robert Plant sound pretty decent, as long as he's not trying to sound like he did back in the day...

You guys should be so freaking lucky anyone wants to hear you do anything at age 70. I suspect most people pooping on singers in this thread can't sing and have no idea what it takes to be a lead singer.

Also, those of you who mentioned Rod Stewart didn't hear him kill it on the Howard Stern show a month ago. At 9 am he still sings better than the lot of you put together

Empire tour was one of the best shows I have been to. Full Empire set. Then entire Minemdcrime - then 8 encores.

What was wierd was his voice sounded great throughout but somehow in the encores he almost sounded like he was even more warmed up.

Do baseball players play as well at age 50 as they did at age 25? Of course not. It's called "getting older". Our bodies change as we age. There's no way around it. I don't think it's cool to devote an entire thread to musicians who aren't as good today as they were when they were younger. But hey, users are free to post whatever they heck they want I guess.

Pretty much anyone who's hit 50 has lost the top of their range. It's inevitable.

That's why opera singers retire so young.

As far as Tony Bennett, he is singing great but his voice has changed a lot...more grit and he stays away from notes he used to hit easily.

Oddly some singers actually started sounding better in their later age. One person that comes to mind immediately is Freddie Mercury. It seemed like his range improved as he got older and could belt high notes instead of using falsetto like he used to.

In an interview or two he says he had formal voice training. The guy has God given talent but seems to have learned to take care of it early on in his career.

I think I remember seeing an interview with Hetfield where he basically said something to the effect that he COULD sing like he used to if he really wanted to, like, a few shows into a tour, but by the end he'd be wrecked, and he didn't want to destroy his voice by the time he was 30, so he dialed back the growl and started singing more from the diaphragm, like you're actually "supposed to". That's pretty much why Met live sounds nothing like they do on albums anymore, because he just doesn't want to kill himself every night of a tour.

Continuing with my unhip posts, Tony Bennett obviously doesn't have the same vocal chops he used to, but he performs with such class and grace on stage that he is still a pleasure to watch. The same can be said of other more contemporary vocalists who are getting ripped to shreds here.

I have to say that I didn't find this thread mean at all. Unless some of the posters meant it in a mean way. We all grow older and we change. If you are saying they can't sing their old songs the way they did when they were young, well, of course you are correct. Listen to a very old man speak. He didn't sound like that at 20. Voices change. I live near Branson, Missouri where a lot of the older musicians do a lot of concerts. I have had the pleasure of seeing several. Roy Clark certainly didn't have his spry youthful voice, but...... I got to be in a room full of people with Roy Clark. He still sounded like Roy. Just older. What an honor.

I had a great opportunity to hear Andy Williams do his Christmas Music only a couple years before he passed. Still a very big voice from such a little old man. I always thought he'd have to be 8 foot tall to sing like that.

Geddy Lee can still sing better than I ever will.

Tom Delonge of Blink 182 has gotten noticeably worse. He was decent before the breakup but now it's like he's drunk 24/7 when he sings. Slurring words together that doesn't even make any sense.
