Single Malt Scotch!

I've had the 12. It's pleasant and buttery. Simple finish. It's one of those I would like to always have around.
Current favorite: Glengoyne 15; change of pace: Auchentoshan Bartender's Malt; nostalgic favorite: Macallan 12 (sherry oak cask version). Talisker 10 is for times when I feel like licking a swamp. Lagavulin 16 when the weather turns freezing (I live in California and it almost never freezes).
The Balvenie 15 Single Barrel is one of my all time favorites and I've been watching for a bottle of the 12 to add to the collection.
Just back from our annual Harley Davidson Bike Rally in Scotland. Decided to try the Whisky tasting on board the steam train. Have to say the train could have been standing still as far as i know 
Tried 4 Speyside whisky's from Speyside Distillery Co Ltd. They do a special Thunder In The Glens 20 yr old which is finished in beer casks called Beinn Dubh Thunder In The Glens Ruby Black. Normally £95 in the local Aviemore shops but they were offering it at £50 a box to people on the train doing the whisky tasting. Obviously i had to say YES PLEASE as didn't want to offend anyone.
Exceptionally nice whisky altho i had tried 3 others before this in very large glasses too so i will need to comment on taste at a later stage. Only 500 bottles produced and all certificated. Nice little touch.

If you don't like the peat TCP Iodine taste then the Duirachs Own Isle of Jura is very nice and is my fav tipple. I may have mentioned that before on here but honestly i'm not on commission, its just so nice

Must have got the posts mixed up there. Its milder and has more flavour. When i say milder i mean its smoother and goes down easier. I'm probably not the best at describing the taste but i know some guys on here have tried it and they are excellent at describing flavours and tastes. Maybe one of them can offer some help there.

My collecting (in other words, the stuff to keep, not drink) of Scotch got a kick start today. Just bought a bottle of Port Ellen 32 year, 15th Release. I got it for a fair deal, but it's a lot more than I had figured I'd spend on a single bottle. It's purely for collection, not drinking. At the same time, picked up a couple bottles of new-to-me whisky and Scotch. I'll post a shelf photo once it is all here... probably a bit over two weeks give or take. List of everything I currently have on hand:

Never quite got the collection just for sake of having them to be honest. Every bottle i have has been opened to taste or will be on a special occasion like anniversary, birthday kind of thing. I'd rather i enjoyed them than my unappreciative relatives when i'm gone.

It's half an investment vehicle, and one that if it never gains in value, I have something tangible I can drink. Not a ton different than a lot of other commodity collections.
And people can play collector instruments, drive collector cars, mail things with collector stamps, etc. etc. etc.
I passed up a chance at a 25 year Port Ellen for $300 and have been kicking myself ever since. That was even after I'd tasted some of it.
Don't know if you're aware of the Taketsuru 17 but it was one of the most popular bottles in Japan until it became unobtainable. Even rarer than that was the extremely limited edition of the same bottle, in non-chill filtered version, and I've got a bottle of it available if you're interested.

Yamazaki 12 is one of my always on hand bottles too. Along with Hibiki 17, 30, Taketsuru 17, 21, Hakushu 10 and Ichiro's Malt Winewood Reserve, my favorite Japanese selections
Who said anything about saving? The Aberlour is absolutely for drinking - I go through a bottle probably every 2 months give or take.
