Single Malt Scotch!

Tried the Ardberg Corryvreckan today and I love the combination of bold flavors and smooth finish. It won't displace my current favorite, Glengoyne 15, since I tend to prefer a lighter character and simpler flavor profile.
A great beauty of whiskey is they don't spoil. I imagine some of my Scotch will live longer than me, and I love having a great variety to choose from.

All this mention of fine scotch's (which I am quite fond of), and NOTHING about its ultimate compliment.....

As I no longer can drink fine spirits I am allowed to dip tail. No No No. Yes I live in Reno but dipping tail is what we call clipping a fine cigar and dipping it into a shot of your favorite fine spirit. My preference is a Diamond Crowne Robusto dipped into a shot of 20 year Glenfiddich. Enhances the flavor and richness of the cigar to a whole new level.

No No No. Yes I live in Reno but dipping tail is what we call clipping a fine cigar and dipping it into a shot of your favorite fine spirit. My preference is a Diamond Crowne Robusto dipped into a shot of 20 year Glenfiddich. Enhances the flavor and richness of the cigar to a whole new level.

I didn't like the doublewood I bought years ago, but my tastes have changed since then, so I should revisit that, especially since I could probably get a taste somewhere before committing to a bottle.
Thanks. Yes, it doesn't need to be a Speyside, just some alternatives to "peat city" for when the mood strikes. Highland Park 12 was the bottle that got me into Scotch, and I'm also working on a gifted bottle of Springbank that is great. It's been years since I've had a Macallan; I should try that sometime since it's readily available.
Oops, I looked at the wrong Balvenie. Ok, I see it's $120 at K&L. I'll try to taste it somewhere first, but it'll probably be on my list once I close out a few other bottles. You did me right with the Coryvreckan suggestion ($70 at K&L!).
The Balvenie 21 Portwood is more around $200 and I would rather have the 15. Tried an experiment with several friends over a few months and all of them preferred the 15 as well. It's really something special and I'll be shocked if you don't love it. Wish I could find the Corryvreckan for that price!
Bought a bottle of the Corryvreckan and thought it's pretty good. Not great, but a good dram. I like the "zazz" of the cask strength, but the flavor was a bit underwhelming. Definitely not going to replace the Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 as my fave, but it's certainly not a bad scotch.
Ah, too bad. At least you don't have to pour it down the sink. It's so interesting how we all taste these differently.

So, Laphroaig ranks as the first scotch I hated, and then within a few days, this first one I loved once I'd gotten over the initial introduction. For me, I really need a fairly full representation from Islay (not all inclusive, but...) and I get that with my Ardbeg 10 and Corryvreckan, Laphroaig 10 and Quarter Cask, Lagavulin 12 and Bunnahabhain 18. I'll have to open that bottle of cask strength Laphroaig someday so I can see if it replaces the standard 10 for me.

Just had to beat me by 2 years. So tell me does the 2 years make a difference in taste other than price?

I haven't had the 12 yr, but this 14 yr is only bourbon barreled and finished in new American oak no sherry cask like the 12. It's an extra 2$ where I'm at so I splurged. It reminds me a lot of an American single malt, lots of barrel spice and vanilla.
The only Glenfiddich I buy is the 14, and it's also the least expensive scotch that I like well enough to buy again and again. If you like the 12, I'd think it a safe bet that you'll like the 14 as well.
Just so long as it ain't Lapharoig. Tastes like a burning Hospital! But I agree I would enjoy the 14 year Glen Fiddich. Ialso enjoy Jonny Walker Blue.

Johnny Walker Platinum and Blue are the two that I actually enjoy. That said, give me your Laphroaig and I'll happily drink it too! Especially the Quarter Cask.
