I know you can't buy scotch online from the distilleries if you're in the US. Is there an online retailer that will ship scotch legally?
Whisky cannot be legally shipped to the US. I've also just found out that you can't mail Whisky from the UK to Europe. You have to use a courier. I just had a quote of £120 to ship a £50 bottle to Germany! :-(
I'm tempted to try out another scotch today.. Not sure if I want to venture into the peaty scotches yet.. So far I've tried Glenfiddich 12, and 18. Almost finished the 1140mL bottle of the 12 year, and still have about 3/4 of the 18 year left. The 12 year seems really 'bright' tasting, but lacking something. The 18 year is a lot more complex, rich, and smooth in my opinion.
Too bad the stuff is so expensive.. the 750mL of 18 year Glenfiddich was almost $85. The 12 year seemed like quite a bargain at $60 for 1140mL.
edit: Got a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Was only $40 and saw many good reviews about it. Will be interesting to try this Islay later on.
It could be bits of cork, or possibly just particulate that hasn't been filtered out.
Burnt rubber? I wonder if thats what you found of the peat![]()
The two Laphroaigs I like are the standard 10 and the Quarter Cask - you made a really good buy, especially considering you're in Canada.Got a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Was only $40 and saw many good reviews about it. Will be interesting to try this Islay later on.
I like the Bowmore 12 too and agree that it's a much gentler entry point, but have had really good luck introducing people to Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin if I can get them to take their time with the glass and just nose it for at least 5-10 minutes, or at least until their senses become accustomed to it before drinking. If your baseline is Glenfiddich, Laphroaig is going to be like getting hit by a peat locomotive. You might want to ease into peat with, say, a Bowmore 12.
