Single Malt Scotch!

More about it ImageUploadedByTalkBass1381531446.757080.jpg

After spending some time at my buddy's place on Friday having some drinks, he offered me a glass of Glenfiddich 21. At the time I thought it was so amazing I picked up a bottle of Glenfiddich 18. Had a glass last night when I was sober and wow. Certainly not used to drinking alcohol straight, but there's tons of flavour. Going to savour this bottle and try acquire a taste for scotch haha.

My present lineup consists of: Ardbeg 10 & Corryvreckan, Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10, Glenfiddich 15, Crown Royal Reserve, Limited Edition, Cask No. 16 & XR, Hibiki 12, Yamazaki 12, Taketsuru 17 Non-chill filtered and standard, Balvenie DoubleWood, Bowmore Legend, Jim Beam Black, Glenfiddich Special Old Reserve.

I love the Ardbeg, Lagavulin and DoubleWood, but for something really cheap that I also enjoy every time I have it, the Jim Beam Black is fantastic. Usually around $17-$22.

Thanks for the suggestion. I remember having Jim Beam Black some time ago and liking it, so that's probably a good call. Maybe I should revisit Balvenie (via a drink, not a bottle). I've had Yamazaki 12 too, and liked it.

Along with the Yamazaki 12 one Japanese whisky that really stands out for me is Miyagikyou 10 and I hope that Nikka will start offering their products over here, especially at the type of pricing that Suntory is doing with the Yamazaki, Hibiki and Hakushu.

Look for that Hakushu if you get a chance. No matter which one, there is something unique to Hakushu that I've yet to find in anything else and everyone that tries it falls fairly quickly to it.

My mates and I have a tradition that on each persons 30th birthday they receive a birthday bottle that is used for a toast every year after. I get to replenish my birthday bottle this week, an Ardbeg Uigeadail! It's a great cask-strength selection that opens up perfectly on a cube of ice... Cheers to years!

I feel dirty, I've just spent the evening at a gig tanking Red Stripe . . . I don't deserve to be in this thread :(

:hiding:

Now come on, don't beat yourself up. There's a time and a place for Red Stripe and a gig is definitely one of those places. It's one of my preferred standard lagers. I remember the happy days when I was paid to drink it...

I'm away from home for the night, but thankfully thought to bring a flask of Balvenie DoubleWood. The more I spend time with this expression the more it grows on me.

I find Balvenie Double Wood to be very comforting. Not only is it a consistently pleasant drink, but it's also very reasonably priced, and broadly available.

I tried the Double Wood last weekend, and I must admit, it was one of my least favorite scotches I've ever had. Granted, I'm an Islay guy, (heavy with the smoke and firewood, please), but I found it fruity and strange. YMMV, of course.

In that same evening I tried the Balvenie Caribbean Cask, which I very much enjoyed.

I'm a big Islay fan too, but I don't ask anything of my whisky other than it taste good and there are a lot of them that do that very well, without having to taste like each other.

One of my absolute favorites is about as far from Islay as you can get, but is also no longer available, and that is Glenfiddich Special Old Reserve. Wish someone familiar with it could tell me of a good replacement for it, but I suppose I'll just have to stumble onto it one day.

Anyone had the Ardbog here yet? A friend picked up a bottle for me, but I've not had the chance to go and get it yet.

I was under the impression that distilleries who had their own shops were able to ship abroad.

Online stores certainly can ship, though if you can recieve it may depend on your state?

http://www.masterofmalt.com/delivery/ (not the cheapest, but they do offer sample bottlings, which is nice).

There'll also be US online retailers which will also have wide selections (and probably be a lot cheaper than the UK online retailers).
