Single Malt Scotch!

Lagavulin 16 is becoming my "comfort scotch". Yeah its a bit pricey but really worth it. I see it as much more approachable for someone who wants to try a real Islay experience than Laphroaig. It seems to be reasonably available in better bars so you can try that one drink without plunking down 85 bucks for a bottle.

I love Laphroaig too but its more of an acquired taste.
Definitely something about the Lagavulin 16, and the 12 too, although it's a bit more money. I'd have to say that if I only had one bottle I could have, it would have to be either Ardbeg 10 or Corryvreckan, though I wouldn't be at all let down if it was the Lagavulin either.

Laphroaig definitely took me a while to get on good terms with, but there are days when I wouldn't want anything else.

Just poured myself one of these.

Lagavulin 16 tonight. I only have that and Ardbeg right now, which is great...but I want to get a sweeter one sometime, and I don't like Balvenie Doublewood. Currently on the lookout for Aberlour A'bunadh, which I know I like. Any other lower-priced suggestions? Maybe I should get a bourbon for that...

Another one came mind last night - what about Dalmore?

Really good sale near me tomorrow, where I could either get Lagavulin 16 for $50 or Ardbeg for $35, but not both. Having a taste test now...think I'll go with Lagavulin even though I still have a 1/3 of a bottle left.

I think Ardbeg has a sweetness underneath the smokiness that I like, Lagavulin is a little bit more balanced and smooth over time. This place doesn't have any of the "sweet" ones that I'm seeking, but I'll be okay being stuck with Lagavulin.
