Single String Headless Tuner Design

I spoke too soon...my wife just called me at work and told me that the tuners came in today! It appears that they went with my initial spec, and the baseplate is only 1/16" thick rather than the newer spec of 1/8"...but honestly I am not terribly worried about it. I now need to get some hex cap screws and set screws on order. I'll get better pictures tonight and post them, but here's a teaser courtesy of my wife's iPad. ;)

These are perhaps the best tuner design i have seen, and so simple, the current options are often so expensive and maybe a little over-engineered.
I wonder if a string needs preparing before cutting? i'm concerned about the windings coming loose, i think i would crush the string in a vice around the set screw point before cutting.
When i was imagining a direct-pull headstock-mounted tuner i came up with a similar design to yours, but shorter and with a separate hole above for the string so it could be pulled through and the set screw tightened before cutting.

Thanks so much for your kind words! I have found that tapewound strings need to be pre-prepared with a bit a CA glue prior to cutting to length. Long term wear and tear is a potential issue for sure, but so far in the short term I have not found issues with round wounds coming unraveled.

Still digging these tuners. Regarding a tool for adjustment, perhaps something like this idea?

It threads in the hole at pic far right, and functions with the strap knob to balance the bass when stood, like feet.
Maybe an idea for your own basses, maybe an accessory add on for sold tuners?

Thanks so much! That is an interesting idea... Knobs could easily be used in place of the hex head screws, but so far I have been happy to use a tool. I like the sleek minimalist look.
