Never played a V7 so I have no comparison. I imagine they are quite similar. The ebony fret board I think is tight and focused like maple, lots of pleasing high end. The thing I've been digging about it is that I can make it sound like my Lakland or my Jazz bass. Very flexible pre amp.

Howdy ya'll... so I picked up a Sire V7, tobacco burst, back a couple months ago and I still can't get over how great it sounds and plays.

Only issue is the weight - it's hefty - like around 11 lbs hefty.

Has anyone tried a gruv gear duo strap on theirs? Like this one: GRUV GEAR · DuoStrap Neo · MAKE LIFE GRUV

The weight is the only complaint I have. If the strap fixes that, the V7 will beat out all my Laklands, Music Mans and Sadowsky as the main player.

It's really that good.

Man, its a jazz body, 10+ pounds is the norm...but the V7 is freaking awesome...enjoy yours ;-)

You must've gotten one of the first batch. They were said to be heavy. Like in the 11 pound range. Is yours a 4 or 5 string? I picked up a VV7 5 and it weighs a svelte 9.2 pounds. I haven't tried one of those straps, but I've considered.

It's a 5 string and I ordered mine from Chicago Music Exchange... not sure how long they've had it, I believe it was a 2016 model, but not certain.

The weight is mainly in the neck. It's pretty chunky, but plays great - it's just a very heavy neck. Which is problematic because I can't do much about that.

If it was the body, I could have some holes drilled under the pick guard to reduce weight. Other than having the neck planed down not sure what else I could do except the duo strap.

But if I can get one of the new V9 5 string at 9.2 lbs, I would order one today!

I've got a 5 string V9 on order, due to be shipped any day now (already 10 days past the initial estimated shipping date). Once I get I'll be happy to report the weight back for you (if someone doesn't beat me to it)

I got one of the first V9-5s and it's 10.5 lbs. I asked for a "light" one but...

While we could get into an endless conversation about whether or not one would be justified in being upset/frustrated/etc about a 10+ day slip in the shipping date, I guess it's probably not worth any of our time to do that. So I'll just say that I hope @thatpatguy and I get our basses soon, that date slippage isn't too common or extensive, and that Sire does a good job of managing their customers' expectations. :)

I believe the people who bought the first shipment of P7s waited a lot longer to get their guitars. I ordered mine on August 7th with an estimated shipping date of Sept 15th. I emailed Sire on the 13th and at that point they said that the date they were hoping to be able to ship my order was the 25th. They asked me to email them again if I didn't get a shipping notification on the 25th, so sometime tomorrow I'll send them a note. Hopefully they'll be ready to ship soon. I'm just seeing this as the price for such a good bass at such a low price :) If people want I can post here with whatever update I get from them.
