Sire Bass Club!

My experience with 34" scale basses is that the standard Elixirs will not fit strung thru the body. They do make a longer scale set but i have never tried them. They may do the trick but not sure.

Also i received a notice from Mickey saying that the 5 string bass i ordered will be two weeks delayed. I ordered a 4 string over a month ago and that also was delayed a little longer. That being said....this 4 string bass is soooo worth the wait. If the 5 string is in the same league i will be a happy camper. Would much rather have an instrument that will last the rest of my days and wait a few extra weeks. So i hope there is no one pressuring them to try and speed things up. Amazing instrument and i have been playing for 35 years and have owned MANY basses in that time.

If i am loving on the 5 string i was also thinking of trying one of the fretless basses. Heck for the price of these i can sell my original Greg Curbow Petite fretless 5 and have all three of these Sire's. BTW if anyone is interested in an awesome Curbow Petite i will be selling that in the next few months. Great amazing playing and sounding bass but it just isn't for me. I like the comfort of a jazz bass body and feel. Don't even know what to ask for that bass. But i got off track....does anyone have any experience with a Sire fretless and your thoughts? I saw someone posted a Soundcloud clip of that but Soundcloud has no volume control so i try not to click on those because with my set up i will blow my speakers up and it is a pain to adjust just to listen to one clip of something.... end of ramble ....lol

Yeah, I never understand why people get pissed about back orders, it happens when a product is successful. But I'm in a business where we custom order a lot of stuff, so I'm sympathetic, my customers... not always. Manufacturing is what it is, stuff happens.

Rationally, people understand back orders, but being human, we tend to want our shiny new goodies right away.

When I pulled the trigger on my V7 I had to convince myself it would be worth the wait. I had 2 windows open on my browser 1 with Sire and another at Zzzounds to order a Fender deluxe. It was like having those 2 little clones on either shoulder,one telling me I it need now and the other telling me patience grasshopper...lol!

These guys are still ramping up, supply will ebb and flow somewhat. I've been well rewarded by being a little patient. Speaking of which, I really do owe a review and pics of my fretless V7, and a huge shout-out thanks to Mickey!

Thought i'd share these with the thread.
They were taken at the Barbican in London last night. I didnt go but a friend borrowed my camera and took these.

So much for the frequent "but Marcus doesn't play one live" threads.

I mean, if you could afford to own and play a lot of nice basses and carry them with you touring - would you want to play the same one every night? What's the point, then?

For those of you who have ordered and waited nearly a month, there is good news! Sire's managing director called me and told me that my bass will more then likely be shipped out the Thursday after next. I can't wait to get my bass and share the pics!!! Also, they are sending me a free shirt. Here is the pic of the tentative design.

Oh the irony....my buddy sends me this pic yesterday from his wife. His new V7 natural ash/maple 5 he has been waiting for. He's been at home these past few weeks and the day before his bass arrives he gets called to be a sub for a handful of shows for a country band out of the Dallas area. He won't get to open the new baby for about another 4-5 days! What's cool is the band is playing here in the N Austin area tonight so I'm gonna watch him play live for the first time in a few years (he's a drummer by trade but killer bass player too). I was able to help him cope a little bit tonight.

Almost no time to get used to it, but this bass is so easy to play that i took the risk and played with it anyways and the concert was a blast. The band didn't like it so much, as i kept messing with the Bass knob and sometimes it was a bit too much. Thank god we have a good sound technician and the audience just heard a killer bass sound! Thank you mister Marcus Miller and Sire for allowing me to have a decent instrument (now i don't have excuses for not playing well)

lol, so the shirts have black blocks but the basses do not.... maybe that'l be a future option (if I'm lucky....)

So my friend finally got to get his v7 unboxed and sent me a pic. He is very impressed with the every part of the bass. He did a minor setup to it and took it to his studio to play it through the bass rig there that consists of a GK 2001RB head and GK 4X12 cab. He was blown away by all the tones he could pull out of the bass. He said he gets the classic single coil buzz in his (something that never happens to me) but that it was no big deal. He was gushing over the slap tone too. He's a pros pro when it comes to drums but he is a great bass player too and will be doing a session later this week and will use the Sire for all the bass parts. I'm glad I talked him into getting one and I think he might go for the alder 4 string down the road. We've got another member to add to the club!!

I was kidding When i increase the bass knob, it can be a really fat sound on the stage, so i almost blew my guitarrist acoustic guitar! Overall, everybody congratulated me for the new baby

I got my 2 V7s fivers over the weekend - Alder and Rosewood (sunburst), Maple and Ash (natural). I took both basses to a rehearsal spot to put them through the paces.

The Good:

-Tone. Both sounded huge, but as they should; the Alder/RW sounded warm but with some snap, the Maple/Ash sounded super punchy. Endless options with the pre.
- The value is nothing short of obscene. These things feel like $2000 basses. I've owned Sadowsky, Alleva-Coppolo, Foders, etc - These basses feel as good as any of them did out of the box. It's actually shocking.
-Production. The neck pocket was tight, no dings on the bodies, nice pup height, etc. They look like boutique instruments.

The Bad:
-The ash bass is a boat anchor; really heavy. Didn't weigh it, but it's gotta be around 12 pounds. I don't know how much it'll leave the house for live gigs.
- The mid sweep and boost/cut knob on the Alder/RW stick together, so you can't adjust one without messing up your settings on the other.
- The active/passive toggle is located in really weird spot.

Great instruments, though. These Sire basses are easily the best deal on the entire bass market by a hundred miles. What you get vs. what you pay literally makes no sense; I don't know how it's possible, but we the bassists are the winners. I got mine through Thomann, too, so I paid just over $800 for both. These things are bonkers. There is no downside to a Sire V7 purchase. You win if you buy one.

Interesting. I haven't read the mag in years. Maybe I should submit writing samples - viva extra income!

Also, I should note that the mid sweep and boost/cut stack on the Ash/Maple don't stick at all. The two knobs function completely independently of one another.

FYI,the bridge height allen wrench also fits the screws for the knobs, a slight adjustment might do the trick on the mid sweep. Also congrats, welcome to the Sire revolution!

Interesting. My buddies (pic above) said his ash/maple is light. I'll have to see if he can weigh it. If the plastic knobs are pushed down to far they will make both knobs "stick". You should be able to slightly slide the upper knob up (takes some force) and problem solved. Or do like me and put on the chrome knobs that each have their own set screw for adjustment.
