Well, that's pretty funny -- until you mentioned this, I never realized that model's maple board had any inlays at ALL!
Everybody has their own tastes. I like contrast in the inlays, but something about the white inlays on maple caught my fancy. It sort of picks up the white pearloid pickguard.
Unless you have a really unorthodox style, the inlays aren't something you look at while playing. But I understand your point. To me, the neck dots are much more important.

One vote for black block stickers. All the hardware is black, so I think it would tie it all together.
Absolutely. I actually think the white dots look quite nice, they just aren't as functional as I would like for my purposes.
I would say that what I'm playing is rather unconventional. I'm playing the bass as the sole melodic instrument in a hard rock drum/bass thing. As such, I play alot of chords and move from low frets to high rather suddenly sometimes, from bottom string to top even, so obvious inlays will be a big help.
Also, I like the look of black blocks, and think that they, or something similar would work well on this bass in terms of aesthetics.

Yeah, Jauqo is a big fish here in the Chicago bass scene, and an early (and vocal!) proponent of Sire, so they made him a couple of specials. The maple board is not ordinarily available on the M7, and Sire is not offering a 6-string V-anything.
I agree with you Rod what really matters playing wise are the side dots. Aesthetically though, I can go either way on the fretboard.

Does anyone know what strings come on the M series basses?
I don't know if it's just bad luck, but the strings on mine are pretty dead, honestly didn't have a ton of life in them to begin with (and this was right out of the box).
Also, I'm trying to find brands that sell E to C sets, or at least individual C strings. Ideally I'd want Elixirs, and their website shows single Cs as an option but my local retailer said (and showed me) it wasn't listed in their order catalogue.

Eeesh... I feel your pain. Since the middle of the pandemic, Elixir is only shipping their most popular sets, no single strings. (For a while they weren't shipping anything at all!) I can't get my beloved .130tw's, only the straight-wound .045-.130 #14202 set. I don't think anyone is selling Elixir single strings on line... and if you find any, let me know!

AFAIK, they have switched to Ernie Ball several months ago... Don't know for M series but my V7 and S7 and other models had EBs initially.

On a different note, just got back from the M2's first practice. It did not disappoint. It's a world of difference from using a P or a J for my high fretted bass wankery. Changed a part in the tune we were working on due to having the extra high string, a huge improvement in terms of sound and ease of play. Seriously loving this bass more and more every day.
