Did you wire the EMGs to the stock preamp? If so, did you just clip the ends of the cables EMG provided and solder them to the preamp?

No I have the J5 pickups and the BTS EQ circuit. The Sire had too many knobs for me. I did have to take the bass to my luthier to do some routing. The EMG pickups are taller and the cavity needs to be brought down about 1/4" Also the BTS circuit needs more room for the blend pot. So irreversible surgery was needed. I have always wanted a 5 that sounds like my 74 Jazz. (Also EMGs and BTS). The bass played so well and sounded so good unplugged that I was all in.
Besides, it's not like I was chopping up a Fodera LOL
The Heritage 3 Pre in my 5 string M7 is able to produce a lot different sounds. I like it a lot.
Looking forward to see what I can do with it when the Fretless M7 arrives, should be fun too.
Maybe one day I'll drop a J-Retro 01 in the V5 for some added versatility.
Having a East pre around for various projects could be useful. Maybe.
If I ever change out the Pick-Ups for the V5 it will most likely be with Lollars.
Really like the sound of the ones on my Nash.

when the Cobalt strings (rounds and flats) first came out from Ernie Ball several years ago (probably 10 or so), they were called Cobalt Slinkys, to distinguish them from the existing product (just Slinkys on the rounds side, and Group I,II, III, IV flats on the flat side). Over time, the Cobalt name was dropped from the flat sets, still in use for the rounds.

Who here has upgraded their V7 pickups and was really happy they did? I was thinking about getting another set, but I'm not convinced that I would find them to be "better" and not just different
Everyone is different tho, your best bet is to just try something.

While I certainly value other peoples opinions about this, I also kinda gave up asking as in the end only my opinion matters, to me. It's like strings, you either try or you don't.

I have watched numerous reviews. LowEndLobster does an extensive review on the M5. There are no differences electronically between the M5 and M7. The neck composition is slightly different, but I believe the profile is the same. Everything else is cosmetic; flame maple top, matching headstock, etc.
I have a natural wood M5 with a black headstock. It's my back to the basics bass. Most of my basses are on the flashy side. I wanted one that was just nice looking wood. Mission accomplished.
It is a chameleon, capable of every tone possible. Awesome instrument.

That's a V7 Ash Fretless! You got yourself a pretty great deal. Fretless is usually a $100 upcharge and the ash models were about 150-200 bucks more expensive than their alder counterparts. IMO at the brand new price the upcharge wasn't worth it for the ash models vs the standard, but at $600 I'd say that's a pretty solid bass you got yourself there!

I'm not sure if Ash is worth more either, but maybe it's lighter?
Some people spend money on lighter hardware as well.
