That's a V7 Ash Fretless! You got yourself a pretty great deal. Fretless is usually a $100 upcharge and the ash models were about 150-200 bucks more expensive than their alder counterparts. IMO at the brand new price the upcharge wasn't worth it for the ash models vs the standard, but at $600 I'd say that's a pretty solid bass you got yourself there!

Does the V in the V7 refer to the pickup series on Sire basses? Is there a post that goes through the letter-number hierarchy of the Sire line?

Sire peoples; I started a thread earlier, should have just posted here.

I bought a 2022 fretless V7, on reverb. Never owned a Sire but I have heard great things. It all happened so fast.

It's not here yet but I thought I would throw this out there to hear from the Sire lovers. I made a good decision right? $600

V series are Jazz Bass shaped
P series are Precision Bass shaped
M series are a Modern shape

Numbers indicate the use of better materials and hardware/electronics and if they are passive or active instruments.

V7 > V5(passive) > V3 for example. V3 being the lowest $$$.

I love how not installing pieces of metal on a bass leads to an up charge.

that's sarcastic. I'm sure the extra work on fretboard, coupled with lower volume of production is more responsible for the price difference. It's just the optics of that up charge is ironic.

And materials, I seem to remember that Alder, Ash and Maple etc all have to be imported to Indonesia.
But the V3 and all the other "low end" Sire's use Mahogany, possibly native, for the bodies.

FWIW, with Sire 1st Gen models, fretless had no up charge. With 2nd Gen, they were declared as "custom" models...

Yeah, the M series is relatively light.

My six string is just under 9.5lbs.

Multiplying by 5/6 gets you under 9lbs. You can't argue with math.

Never weighed my 5 string M7 but it feels lighter than my V5.
