My M5 swap ash 5 string is 8Lbs 11 ozs
Same I have a P7 5 that I've never weighed but definitely lighter than my Fender Marcus Miller 4
So I recently bought a Vintage Tobacco Burst V5R, which has the rosewood neck with pearl white blocks. It originally came with a black pickguard and looked quite nice, in my opinion. Here it is basically right out of the box when it arrived:
But, with the white blocks, I think a white pearl pickguard is just a requirement. Here it is after installing the one I recently ordered:
I like both and realize there will be some who think the original black one is the right choice. That's OK, a difference of opinion doesn't bother me. But, for me, the white pearl is the right choice!
Then again, I AM a huge tort fan and all of my basses with pickguards are wearing tort with the exception of this bass. So I might have to order a tort guard as well and enjoy giving it different looks as my mood changes.

I like the white pearl with a dark body finish. I like contrast.

I too like both but the contrast between the white guard and the tobacco burst finish looks really nice!

Where'd you get the new pickguard?
I like the finish, gives depth of the grain to my swamp ash M5...Am I the only one who thinks Sire's paint finishes are a bit too thick and glossy?
I'd like to see some thinner satin type finishes too, maybe similar to the M2's?

I got it from WD Music.
I've used them a few times and, until now, their cuts have been perfect. I had to file down a couple of spots on this one to get it to fit around the neck on the short horn side and against the control plate. I kept a copy of the tracing I sent and checked it against the original pickguard to make sure I traced properly and I'm pretty confident that I gave them a good tracing. This one wasn't off by much and only took a minor adjustment, but for a piece of plastic that cost over $100, it was kind of disappointing.
I am still considering a tort pickguard for it, but I haven't done anything about it yet.

I recently picked up this V7 fretless used--the first Sire I've owned (or played). I threw some TI Jazz Rounds on it and it's a mwah machine, especially due to the coated fingerboard and preamp with the mid control. I'm impressed with the overall quality, and I especially love the feel of the neck.

What are the differences in preamp between V7 and V10DX ?
His V7 is a generation 1, whatever it was before the Heritage 3 Pre's.
I seem to recall that was the case anyhow.
I am asking because I didn't had the chance to play a V10DX yet. I had a V7 and still have a V10. They share the same preamp but the pickups are different.
AFAIK, the preamp has not been modified compared to 1st gen, at least it was already called "Heritage-3" then, too...
The V10 and V10(dx) have an aymmectric roasted neck, that would be another main advantage vs. the V7's neck, IMHO. And of course the rolled edges.
