I just filed down the fret ends on my M5. One or two strokes was all I needed. Mostly just rounded them off. It didn't take long at all; maybe 1/2 an hour. Now as Chuck Mangione said "Feels So Good". Like butter.
I am glad I have the kit, but all you really need is the file and patience. It is nice to have the fine sanding pads in case you nick the wood. I will definitely find uses for them.

However over time some of the parts and accessories will be available for separate purchase in the future as soon as possible. Good info. I actually never thought to contact Sire about pickguards first and instead ordered one from WD Music. I guess that ended up being the right decision. 
And I'm also glad you thought to double check if my bass was a four string or a five string before we actually traded pickguards. I was so excited to have an opportunity to put some lovely tort on my new bass that I forgot to ask the most fundamental question.

They've been saying this almost from the beginning back in 2015. I wouldn't hold your breath for parts replacement sales anytime soon. I was kind of excited years ago thinking they would start up some kind of store for parts but... yeah, still waiting.
I don't know if any maker has the template to make a V5 pickguard as a stock item. But WD Music will do it as a custom job. Would probably be about $80-90.

I still may order a tort for my V5R after the White Pearl one arrives, hopefully in another week or so.

Cool, but I wont spend that kind of money on a $500 Bass unless it improves how it sounds.
It looks pretty cool with no guard at all, so I might just leave it like that too.

Yeah, I did the same thing with the V5 that's hanging on my wall in my profile picture. It definitely is purdy

Personally, I find WD tort to be a little more like painted pearloid. I like the celluloid pickguards. I had pickguard planet make a custom pickguard for a p bass with a bisonic pickgup and it was great.

I am likely going to get a P5R and get a guard from these folks.

They had the best Red Tort pickguard but seem to be out of it all the time.

Well, I bought one. I think it's a D5? The one that looks like an early P, 51 or so.
So far, I'm impressed. Fretwork is good. No pops or clicks with the pots.
Sounds good. A lot like an old P bass.
It's the 'vintage' white w/black pickguard, which I wish was tort.

Everyone keeps talkin tort but noone wants my V5 4 string leftover tort PG.

I tried. We just didn't agree on the number of strings.

Probably because it is a dark sorta purplish color tort that really only works with some of the finishes on Sires. Just a guess. Personally I would put it away in the event you ever wanted to sell it and they wanted the original.
