It's not as simple as that. It is true that price generally goes up as model number goes, but each series has different specs.

For example:
- The V3P, V5 and V5R are passive. All other models are active, but can also be run passively.
- The V5, V5R and V7 Vintage are modeled after vintage 70s jazz basses. The other models are modern jazz basses with 60s pickup spacing, except the V8 which has 70s pickup spacing.
- There are three discontinued models that can still be found floating around: V7 with ash body, V9, and V10.

Thanks for your reply... I think Sire needs a chart/grid for all their models and related features.

Hey restomod, are you still interested in swapping PGs? I would prefer to keep the original but searching for an original Sire part is not proving fruitful. I've kept the plastic on this one for the time being.

@restomod ... Yes, but you'll need a acetylene torch, hammer drill, and some caustic acid. They are really on there well!

I assumed it just came off with the 9 body screws… the pickups I thought screwed to the bottom of their cavities. Stand by…

Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Slid right out from the strings. You have to hold the low E string out of the way enough to get the screwdriver to the head of one screw.

@Ottertail ok will give it a shot, should be just as easy because I believe the TB'er I got this from had already removed it once to put on some pickup covers. He wasn't sure he was going to like them so he only drilled the bass and not the pickguard at all. I will send you a PM shortly.

Bought myself a V5 5-string. What do you guys/girls think about this bass…? B-string ok…? Used it on a gig last saturday…I think it sounds nice, and the neck is just superb….

I bought a VR5 earlier this year and the first time I used it in a band situation was about a week later when we played a large summer food truck festival. It sounded fantastic. My band mates were a little apprehensive about me using an "untested" instrument but they were quite happy with it as well.

I bought it to because "beater" for festivals when the weather makes me hesitant to use any of my "good" basses. But this one gets regular playing time now.

These are an outstanding bass for the price.

I think the V5 is a beautiful instrument that looked wonderful in Lahbstah's YouTube review.
I think you need to cut that extra string off immediately! That's really going to get in the way of playing.
I like roasted necks and I cannot lie. All you other basses can deny.
Yeah .... this is exactly why people don't ask me "what I think" ...

Yesterday was an interesting day for the Sire U5. I took it to our local music store to show the owner.
He was shocked at what $534 gets you with Sire.
The biggest shock was when he plugged it in. He could not fathom how a short scale bass could sound .... ready for this? BETTER than the 34" Fenders, etc on his wall.
He kept saying "That E string is so rich". And "it sustains for days".

Guess Sire made a positive impression with it's baby bass.

I keep trying other things, like the short scale sterling and there is just no comparison. The Sterling needs work to be playable (frets are almost the worst I've ever felt, pickup mount, nut adjustment) but The U5 is a hit.

Took the V3P to rehearsal last night. The room wasn't great, neither was the amp they provided so it was hard to dial in the tone I get on my amp. The first thing I noticed is that the V3P is very bright. This was brilliant for the slap numbers. However, even for slap, I had to dial back the tone to 50%. The bass tone was quite deep and growly so the reduced tone helped tame it. I think it's better to have a bright tone that you can tame with the tone control rather than having a dull tone. Overall I thought the bass sounded great once I had the tone dialled in that I liked. I'll be gigging it on Saturday. Always feels risky when gigging a new bass and leaving your old familiar basses at home!
