I did check the pickup height and found it to be close enough (around 3mm), so i did not try to adjust.

Following your advice, i did keep the bass for about two weeks, before sending it back to Thomann.
I guess I'm learning that I'm a Jazz Bass sound type of guy. Not a big fan of the physical shape and weight, but I just happen to love the sound.

Well I say good for you that you gave it a couple of weeks trial anyway. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that you thought it was thin sounding as I don't recall anyone else saying that. Admittedly I haven't read all of the Sire thread. Is your Jazz bass active? I ask because normally any active bass would be hotter than a passive Jazz. I still don't get it but you know what you like and you found a bass you like and really that's all that matters. And saved some money. Cool.

It's the same preamp, just laid out differently.

Mines fretless and came with flats, so harder to compare against my other good low Bs (generally a stainless rounds guy), but I'd say good, tight, and clear, yes. The 35" scale is likely part of it.

Both of the Jazz Basses i compared it with are passive.
You can check the clips attached.

I went to check mine, I'm not so sure it is. There is a set screw with no obvious other function that might be spacing, but it's tiny, don't have a wrench to fit handy nor time right now to find one. It might just be a lock on the intonation setting though. The default spacing is stated as 19mm for the 4 and 18mm for the 5, fwiw.

I posted on the other Sire thread, but I got my M7 back in November - put a review on this site. As I was looking in the electronics on the back of the bass, there is a pot that is adjustable - anyone know what it is for?

Although I have played it live and it cuts through nicely, I have noticed that the output is weak compared to my passive Lakland and my Warwick Corvette 5 - however, it still plays nicely and I can get almost any tone I want.

The pot is for adjusting the active output. Some like to set it to where the volume is pretty much equal when either in passive or active mode and some like to have it set to where there is a slight boost when switched from passive to active.

On my v7 I adjusted it to where there is a very small increase in volume when the eq is set flat and I switch from passive to active.
