SKYRIM!!!!!

As to that, as said earlier, Fallout 3 was made by Bethesda and builds on many ideas you find again in Skyrim. Both games are the result of the development and increasing know-how from the earlier 4 Elder Scrolls games. :p

Atm at level 8. Destruction at 35 and Illusion at 37, give or take one on both. Any ideas what else might be cool skilling up? Alteration I guess is a no-brainer, Alteration is fun.

But for the rest - Enchanting? Is it good? Got a few soul gems lying around anyway. What about alchemy? Little purpose other than picking flowers and selling the potions for (lots) of cash is all I've figured. Enough magicka and health potions lying around anyway.

And what about restoration and conjuration? Restoration spells I hardly ever use, as I'm happy nuking **** with my magicka, nevermind healing with other stuff than potions. But Conjuration? Does it have a purpose for a mage other than for Soul Trap for Enchanting? The weapons and such you can conjure, does that increase your weapon skill? In which case it'd be useless as I want to nuke stuff with fire, not swords atm.

Oh and there's this annoying bug (PC). When I want to change the spell of my right hand, it has to be empty to allow me to do it - IE I have to equip a sword or dagger or somesuch in my right hand, then unequip it before I can proceed to putting a new spell in my right hand. Any ideas on how to fix it?

I've been playing this for the past weekend. I'm playing a Nord with a huge beard and a mohawk (so he's a viking or a drummer for a black metal band). I was originally going to stick to warhammers, but did the Companions quest and got a Skyforge battleaxe. It feels about the same, and I think the battleaxe looks better in the higher levels. The warhammer just isn't devastating looking enough for me. Once I feel like I've gone through this game enough the first time, I'll probably make a thief character and just sneak around killing everyone.

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT CONCERNING MAIN QUEST
One quick anecdote: I went home for Thanksgiving and didn't bring my PC with me. So on Monday night I figured I could finish one more quest and feel like that was a good place to stop and it wouldn't bother me. I was doing the quest for the Graybeards where you go into that dungeon and get the horn. So I go in, thinking that I just have to crush a few skeletons and I'd be able to bring them the horn and go to bed. I get to the end, past the dragon heads that come out of the water, up to where the horn is supposed to be where, what do I find? A note! A freaking note! So then of course I HAVE to go to the inn in Riverwood where the chick is holding the horn hostage or whatever. Just kind of annoyed me because I knew it would have bothered me if I didn't find out what's up, and of COURSE I couldn't go to bed until I get that all straightened out.

At least, I thought that was a pretty good excuse.

I'm a Redguard only a level 5 right now. Dual wield swords and sometimes single wield with destruction.

My question is, can you only increase skills when you level up? Because that's what's happening to me.

Yes. You only get skill points when you level but you don't have to spend them right away. You can save them if you want.

Using hotkeys? Or just in general?

With hotkeys it appears to be because the system designed around having a main hand (right hand) and an off hand. Spells automatically go to the offhand. Hotkeys don't work properly for dual weilding anything, be it spells or swords. Especially if you have two of the same sword, it keeps deleting them from the quick menu :hmm:

I haven't had any problem doing it manually though.

Yeah that quest pissed me off, too. Though I'm sure there's a lot more like that.

I was talkin to a dude that works down the street from me about Skyrim. We were talking about fast travel (me and another guy) and the guy pops up and says "fast travel?" I looked at him stunned. I was like "Yeah, you can quick travel to any location you've visted...you didn't know that?" lol

I played Morrowind a lot one summer, and not very much of Oblivion, so I'm used to there not being fast travel. But I like being able to fast travel without having to pay a guy over and over. Plus the silt riders creeped me out.

Does anyone else LOVE Two-Handed?

I got the skill perk that let you cut people's heads off when I was doing the last quest for the Companions, where you fight a bunch of ghosts. It was weird beheading them and having a solid head roll on the floor.

I just rented it from Redbox to see what all the fuss is about. I spent 45 min on just deciding what race to choose.

So far I see tons of things to pick up, tankards, buckets...do I really need all of that stuff? Seems really cool, but a little annoying that you have to really search each room hard, in case you might miss picking up somthing cool.

I tend to use fast travel as little as possible. I've thought about getting some sort of mod to disable it, but there is the odd occasion where I really cannot be bothered to walk.

I just find exploring and experiencing the world as you move around the place is a lot more fun. It makes quests that involve "Go to place -> Talk to person -> go to other place" a lot more fun, as you can do a bunch of dungeons and random encounters and stuff along the way.

I'm new to this thread (sorry, can't read the last five pages ;)). What's going on in here?

I'm playing as an Argonian, preferbly fire destruction and recovery magic with some one-handed melee. Bows and magic for the dragons. Skilling lock picking and smithing.

Played Morrowind a LOT when it came out, haven't really ever touched Oblivion (a friend of mine told me a bit about it and I didn't really like that).

Nah. You get much quicker at skimming a room after a little while. Generally you only pick up what's worth/is more useful than what you already got. At the start of dungeon I often loot a lot off the first mobs, then get more selective, then throw what I first picked up to replace with higher value stuff. I think in terms of fun/usefulness and value/weight-ratio.

The cool stuff is mostly either "hidden" somewhere, or it is obvious where it is. So in rooms in general there aren't usually much interesting apart from books. Still, I for one use to search everything, but it doesn't actually take very long.

Tankards etc I never pick up. A bucket can come in handy though, as you can put it on someone's head and rob them :D

Im torn on fast travel. Ive never loved it but i find i need it. Im playing the game on master level and nearly 100% of the time when i am trying to run/ride somewhere, i come across someone/something that will instantly destroy me. Too much wasted time...

Found another potentially game-killing bug. Without giving out any spoilers: Despite beating a quest in Markarth, one small section of the town doesn't seem to think so, cause the guards want to kill me anyway, and I can't surrender. And I have no bounty whatsoever.

Hope that doesn't ruin my game. :hmm:

I've played to 30ish as a pure mage and recently restarted ( just for grins ) as a 2 hander, with a focus on the Warhammer. My gripe is that the Skyforge guy doesn't MAKE a warhammer. I got the 2 handed sword instead, and it's ok ( love the crit cut scene for it ) but I like the warhammer for brutal armor ignoring goodness. I've since made my own Dwarven warhammer and am now a happy puppy. My first play through as the mage I had my follower essentially set up as my 2 hander I'm playing now. This time I've got him in heavy armor and a 1handed sword. I give him a staff of companion and a staff of storms. He also has a Dwarven shield. That combo is just SICK for a follower. His bow is a mana sucking pig for helping take down the casters. He looks seriously bad ass holding the skyforged ( with life stealing ) sword and a staff.
