Small (210?) cab that can handle my svt III pro by itself

I am interested in the advice of the great Talkbass community.

Recently I sold my truck and bought a sports car. While the girls love it, it is terrible for hauling gear. Leaves me with having the area of my passenger seat for cab storage.

I love my SVT III Pro, it puts out the exact sound I hear in my head, and anywhere where 450 watts is not enough, I am sure to be DI anyway.

I bought a BXT210M and it sounds better at 250 watts than 450 watts. Not sure if the Cab's RMS of 400 Watts @ 4 Ohms is over rated, or maybe the speakers have been blown?

During my research, the Mesa Boogie Power House 210 (RMS 600 Watts @ 4 Ohms) There is also a vintage version. Has anyone run the powerhouse 210 with a SVT III Pro, or svt 3 pro? Opinions on the Powerhouse 210 including my exact amp or any other amp would be terrific!

The Eden D210XST also looks very interesting for this application (500 Watts RMS) Same question about this cab.

Is there a 3rd cab worth suggesting? To this point I have been an ampeg man, but they simply do not make a cab that will fit this bill. Cabinets should be 4 Ohms, and handle 450 watts without "Clipping" or "Farting"

I like to stay positive about these things. This notion of having a reasonably small (light) cab that can go from the studio to rehearsal to stage monitor duty anywhere there is DI action should not be unthinkable. I would think any active Player would enjoy a rig this versatile (and light?).

I may be the new guy here, but "Take up the guitar?" sounds like treason to me.

In this pic is my current rig SVT III Line out--> Effect return on BA500. that pushes 250 Watts to the onboard 2x10's and 250 Watts to the BXT210M. Sounds fat and warm, but certainly one 2x10 cab can handle this duty running just the svt, and I would be modular from 450 Watts with 2 10's to 950 Watts with 6 10's adding even more versatility.

Ya, you can do what you're doing there with the 3-pro only, and a pair of good 210's. One for practice/small stuff, both for bigger gigs, yes.

simple, Porsche 944, it's a hatchback w/tons of room for a good size rig as well as the girl

I have a D210XST paired with a D212XLT. The XST has significant low end - the XLT more mid punch. The MESA looks very nice also - although the Eden is lighter and has a wider frequency response.

No standard, off-the-shelf 112, 210 or 115 will fully "handle" 450 watts, regardless of its' impedance. If you want a single sub-50lb cab that will take 450 watts and turn every bit of it into sound, the only options are cabs based on the 3015 long x-max woofer: fEarful, LDS custom, Audokinesis etc. Others may be rated as handling 450 watts, but they will compress before reaching that number, which is only use because it's the power level at which the drivers will sustain permanent damage.

+1 forget what the cabs are "rated" for, because in fact, there is no off the shelf small cab that will fully handle 450 watts. Period. In fact, consider whatever the cabs rating is to be HALF that, at best. It's excursion that matters, and that's not rated. Just find something you like the sound of, and watch your eq and levels carefully.

i agree with rickenboogie. what car did you get because i can think of a fair few sports cars with a big boot (to the yanks, trunk)

i mean i cant think of many 2x10's that can handel that power anyway. why dont you just use the venues amps?

I use the 2x10 format but I always use a pair. I consider that a minimum for me to play out.

Are you a player or a lover?? That's the decision you're going to have to make. I got my girl while driving a 5cwt ex Redifusion Anglia van. We're coming up to forty four years together.

If the girl likes you because of what you drive and not who you are then she's not going to be a long time investment!

I've owned a lot of boutique cabs in my 35 years of playing and just recently bought a Epifani PS210 4 ohm. Best cab for the money I've ever owned!! Easy to handle, rssponds extremeley well to any EQ I give it, and PLENTY LOUD!!

Honestly the only 210 cab in the world that will take a full 450 Watts @ 4 Ohms is the BASSON B210B. The magnet on each of the 2 speakers is 13 pounds! Handled my pro 3 fine. Now handles the pf 500 and there is even a pro version of mine that I think takes 600 watts.

the carrying capacity of a 944 is amazing, you could fit a fEARFUL in there along w/an amp, your bass, your gig bag AND of course the girl in the front seat. Great access to the gear via the well designed hatchback. Could do the same w/a 928 but the 944 is more economical (for a Porsche.....).

A 210 ain't gonna do it. I tried it, killed an avatar 210 neo and ended up with an Epifani Ul310 series 1. Small and only 47 lbs. It's 5.3 ohms so it draws about 350 watts from my lmII. Plenty loud and can handle the power.
