Small cab preference

I guess it depends on your goals. If you're looking to just scale up and get "more" of what you already have, then yeah, another 2x12. If you want something different sounding, or something to handle smaller gigs/venues, lighter, etc, then a 2x10 or 1x15. Personally, I prefer 2x10's, but I think a 1x15 would probably pair really nicely with an existing 2x12.

Why not 1x12?
My favorite small cab is the Barefaced Super Compact. Incredibly loud, full sounding, "anti-mud"…

It all depends why you're lookin for another cab. I don't know what kind of tone you prefer, and cabs have a huge impact on overall tone. That said, if versatility/portability are concerns, another 212 won't help. My preference is for brands that engineer their different sized cabs to go well with each other, and pair 1 large and 1 smaller, ideally with 4 and 8 Ohm impedances, respectively, to balance power to each cab when used together at 2.7 Ohms (if your head will go that low). That way I have 3 rigs: small cab alone for low volume, larger cab alone for most, both for when I need big volume. Right now I have Barefaced 4 ohm 210 and 8 Ohm 110. In you case I'd want a 112 'cause that's usually plenty for me. I would not mix cabs from different manufacturers or from different lines from the same company unless I could try them together at drummer volume and know 100% that they match well.

If you like the 2x12, I'd stick with it.

I spent a few days with an Aguilar SL115 a few months ago and loved it. It's a great cab. I didn't love the 2x10, but that's just personal preference, there was nothing wrong with it. You should really go play them if you can.

I find 10s to be more punchy IMHO. I'm not a fan of 12s on their own but paired with 10s, they fill in the low end. Not a fan of 15s. I run a 210 with a 112 and they complement each other. I would guess a 212 would pair nicely with a 210.

I currently have Aguilar SL 2x12. Sounds great. I was looking for something smaller when noticed much is needed and something that pairs well when more is needed.

I think Aguilar SL 2x 10 is the way to go. I like punch and clarity over mega deep .
Both are 8omz.

If I run both together I can get the full 700 watts from my AG700 when needed.
Or it feeds 350 watts when I use them individually .

I have been blown away with my Genzler BA15-3. Not a conventional 15. Deep tight and full without being muddy. The dispersion of the array driver increases clarity and the ability to hear yourself as well as others to hear you off axis. Mid and highs are smooth without harshness that tweeters sometimes have. 15 is less than 40 lbs. When paired with the BA 210-3, very high performance modular rig. BA series cabs are worth a look.

If you're looking for something smaller when less than 212 will do, my next question is whether 212 has ever not been loud enough for you. If the answer is no, I'd go with a matching 8 Ohm 12.....smaller/lighter and cheaper than a 210 and still fine for practice or grab 'n' go. You could still pair them with your 700 watt head. Maybe audition the SL 210 and 112 if possible? I wouldn't fall into the "10s sound like this and 12s sound like this" trap. You really have to think about specific cabs 'cause there are 12s and 15s that can sound tighter than some 10-loaded cabs.

Depends on the bass, style of music, and size of venues.

115 = 5 string bass, pop music, synth bass, or relatively larger venues with no PA support

If none of the above than 210 for extra punch.

115 that goes deep for me because you probably already have the punch you need with your 212 and the 115 would be a good complement.

Also, having a 212 and a 115 you can use separately gives you more options tone wise/better fit with various rooms. Versatility is a plus for me.

When I was looking to buy an Aguilar 2x12 cab, I can't recall where I read it, (probably on TB!) but it was mentioned that a pair of Aguilar 2x12 cabs sound phenomenal/off the charts! So, I vote you should get another matching Aguilar 2x12.

Yeah, you can't get another SL212 as they are 4 ohm cabs. AG700 will go down to 2.67 ohms, not 2 ohms. The SL 210 probability makes the most sense. Or the SL 115. You must play at high dbs as the 2x12" by itself is pretty substantial.

Respectfully disagree as the SL 112 is only a 250 watt cab. If paired with an SL212 it may become overwhelmed. And 1x12 generally speaking isn't as capable as a 2x10.
The OP is using a 700 watt head @4 or 2.67ohms.

To this day, one of the best bass sounds I ever got was from a 412 cabinet. I'm a big believer in matching cabs (coupling FTW), so I'd be going with another 212 for sure.

I've tried several cabs and none have impressed me as much as Barefaced. They are small, light, and sound HUGE. I have two One10 cabs. One with a tweeter and one without. I can run them as a pair and it's PLENTY for any small gig where I don't have PA support. Larger gigs I go direct and don't use a cab at all.
