I've used a dod fx25 with the sensitivity too far up to have it open, it's cool for a dubby line, or as a sub generator if I hit the from of it with an OC2 or fuzz (or both). But that's a bandpass filter and the xero is a low pass, does that make it different?

Essentially the same thing - for dubby lines. I had an old Kermit green FX25 for years and dug it but the Xero is more versatile with the clean blend and control over the resonance. Also the ability to set the cutoff frequency.

Even though the DOD is bandpass, when set up with the sensitivity too low to open the effect is pretty much the same as a LPF.

Try a BassBalls. Yes it's not an envelope filter per se, but it may get you the sound you want (check Youtube). I actually just saw someone selling on cheap in the classifieds actually.

I've tried the bassballs and I like it but it's not a sound that I'd use that much, not compared with a normal lpf.

It's definitely on the list for a future studio collection, but the whole point of this thread was trying to maximize board space and I don't think that sound makes the cut.

Hope you like your AF-9. My old AF-01 is still an awesome filter that I find easy to dial in, but I generally use my Prometheus because it works so well, last on the board.

Huh, have you ever a/b'ed the af9 and af01? There was an 01 on eBay I was looking at.

The Prometheus looks cool! I just found out my drummer has one, he said I could test it for a second next time I'm at his house.

Dr. Green Doctor's Note by Ashdown, top position jacks help conserve space. I think Ashdown got this one right except for participating in the long name trend. I tried the Sweeper but it disappoint as I run my line too hot. It would probably work with my passive longhorn bass... I settled on the Maxon with wind instruments as the new DrQ's don't do it. Maxon is solid and traditional.

That I've owned, only the EHX enigma.

AFAIK, the iron ether xero, the 3leaf wonder love and the moog low pass filter all do.

Can the Moog low pass filter function as a traditional sounding wah (with some other sounds) with an expression pedal? Or is it something else entirely?

This is starting to get into the tired but true "do a search" territory. I've seen a bunch of very informative threads on the Moog filter with posts with people that own it and use it, unlike myself who's just read about it.

The Moog (and the IE Xerograph) are low pass filters. You can set the cutoff and resonance (and blend in some clean) to get wah like sounds but a traditional wah pedal is a bandpass filter where you're sweeping the resonant peak through the frequency range.

There are some bass wahs that are LPFs (like the old red EBS one) and I dig them but it is a slightly different sound to sweep past a fixed cutoff LPF vs a bandpass.

For my minimal wah needs the Xerograph works just fine but it isn't an exact replacement for the traditional wah sound.
