Small girthy overdrive?

To be perfectly honest, trying to get what you're describing with a pedal isn't the best way to go about it it. What you're really looking for is thicker sounding pickups and/or the girth and creamy grit of a tube amp. Maybe you should fill out your profile so we can see what you're using.

Mesa 400+, Warwick infinity 5. Ampeg 810e . I've currently got a green russian muff. I know it can do a sound in the vain I want it to but its more fuzzy than Im wanting. I've tried the sublime with the gain all the way down. Thus why I gave those as examples as the vein of sound I'm looking for.I know its a sound achievable in a pedal format- I just haven't heard that pedal yet. How I'm wanting to use the pedal I've described is in a clean blend. Using this setup in stoner /doom / psychedalic /metal type contexts.

The only ways I've gotten a full/fat sounding OD is with my Bassman and SVT... Split your signal and go one side clean to one channel and one side dirty to the other. Clean channel maintains the full sound/lows & the dirty sides gives you the OD tone. I used a Big Muff for a long time but it gets real muddy real quick when you play fast. I've also tried the ODB3 and hated it, the ProCo Rat and thought it was OK, and finally the MXR Distortion+ which was the best of the smallish disto pedals I've tried. Honestly, the best distortion I've gotten is through my old Peavey Max100 but it's huge.

Not quite sure how to describe what I'm looking for. Want an overdrive pedal thats got the thickness/girth of an old green russian big muff/ or the fender sublime with the gain right down. Want clean articulation. I want it to sound like my bass but fuller, Wider?. It doesn't need much gain, if it gets a slight bit of break up fine. Slightly gritty/creamy texture is preferable to overly clean and sparkly.

Preferably in an MXR size enclosure... Can anyone give me a suggestion? I don't have any references to give/specific examples but if you've got something/suggestions they will be checked out.

Thank you muchly

I happened across this thread and have been watching it for a few days now...

I've had my eye on the SFT and Holy Fire for a while, and now the Gemini Drive. Are the Electronix Gemini Drive and Zeibek version the same thing? I wish I could find more info, but all I've found is their website and the Bassfuzz.com Youtube video. I didn't know I wanted the Gemini until I heard the clips. lol

I've never been the hugest overdrive fan, but now I kind of want to do a shootout with these three. lol

The HAO Rust Ride actually sounds pretty good and it's even better if your looking for simple.

I had a Rust Ride for a while and definitely wouldn't classify it as a light overdrive. It didn't sound bad, but it was quite a bit more crunchy than I wanted (and what it sounds like the original poster is looking for). I also didn't like that it was TOO simple, it doesn't have separate volume and gain controls... turning up the knob turns up the overdrive and the volume at the same time.

Just not my thing I guess... Sold it before it even hit my pedalboard. :hmm:
