Smells like fish!

I've had strings start to smell like onions when they corrode. Ernie Ball comes to mind. Certain alloys don't hold up well to my sweat.
No something similar to the Music Nomad F-one oil .. and, I should add, this is seemingly the only meaningful answer I’ve read on this thread .. maybe the strings manufacturer applied some kind of oil onto the strings after their fabrication; it then became rancid and smelly for whatever reason .. if the problem is in the strings the OP may just get rid of them ASAP.
For that bass, aside from an impossible change of headstock shape, I’d suggest a set of LaBella DTF 760FL.

Well, ya know. You finger around with a G string and sometimes those fingers come back smelling a little fishy.
Saw her live a coupla years back - what a show! Turns out I was in the same hotel, so I had the luxury of accidentally meeting her first thing in the morning before she put her makeup on! hehe. What a show.
