Snark Tuners?

I love mine as well, and it's the only tuner I use. (I always carry a spare battery for it). The Snark I have is made of a more rubbery type material, so it can take some serious punishment. In a club with loud music playing, if you pluck the strings closer to the neck, the Snark will pick it up just fine. The one I have has no problems with a low B string either.

I can't remember how I found about the Snark, but I do remember the first time I took it to an open mic night, it was passed around like crazy. Next week, almost everybody had one!

In fact, around here it has become an inside joke non-verbal way to tell someone they may be out of tune, you just step over and discreetly clip the Snark to their headstock.

I also bought them for Christmas presents! Just a good, handy little device for the money!

A word of warning to you guys leaving the snark on your headstock, there is a possibility of discoloration according to the brochure. I use mine & remove it, works as advertized. Only strange thing that happened with mine was the rubber foot slipped off & I put it right back on.

+1

This happened to my Warwick's headstock. Not the end of the world but mildly irritating as it was left on for maybe a week tops and there is a permanent 'footprint' on my headstock now. Lesson learned; only on when actually tuning now.

My only issue is with reading the B string. Even when I use a harmonic, it reads for a very short time. I end up having to play the harmonic several times, even when the room is dead quiet. I think they're good for the price, and very convenient. I'd buy another one.

Only experience with Snark was with the blue one. Flimsy swivel point that broke on me. Maybe I'm heavy handed. I prefer the D'Addario NS Mini/Micro. So discreet it just stays put on the headstock at all times. Low B seems to prefer the harmonic for tuning but overall I think they are great for such a small discreet tuner.

I am going nuts! I have a snark tuner that plugs in, and I love it. But yesterday, I went to use it, and it wouldn't pick up anything. The capo settings, A-440 button, metronome, and tone generator all work, but neither the mic nor the jack would pick up anything. I thougt it was the batteries, since they were going dead anyway. So I took them out and charged them, and put them back in. The display went from dim to bright, and everything still worked, but it still wouldn't pick anything up. I opened it up, and everything seems fine. I thought maybe it was from condensation since I have left it out in our car in below-freezing temps. When it gets too cold it starts flashing all sorts of crazy things on the screen, requiring me to pull out and reinsert the batteries. Have I killed my tuner? Has anyone else had there snark just stop responding? Google is not helpful right now... I am kinda pissed, since this is my only tuner, and I love it. If I can't fix this and have to get a new tuner, I may or may not get a snark again...

Please, if anyone has experienced what I am talking about, I would appreciate your input...

Lolwut? Excuse me for being stupid, but I don't recall reading that someone lost their tuner to a dog...

My dog chewed up a couple snarks last year as a puppy. First one was my fault as I left it sitting around. Second one she grabbed of the visor of the van while I was standing there talking to my brother in an Ace Hardware parking lot. My latest, the SN-8, seems to be the worst of the 5 or so I've owned.

Saturday night my Boss tuner got dropped, and broke during setup. I had to rely on my backup, a Snark tuner. It worked pretty well at lower noise levels.

But I had to do a drop D tuning in the middle of a set, in a loud venue, and the Snark would not respond at all to the E string on my Fender Dimension bass.

So I winged it on the drop, and also back up to E after the song, and I made it just by dumb luck.

Lesson learned: Never depend on one of these clip-ons in a pro setting. I'm ordering a second Boss in-line tuner as my backup.

I found all these clip on tuners to be dicey on the low 'E' and impossible on the low 'B'. Maybe I haven't tried enough of them yet. I use clipon tuners only with my ukuleles.

I have Zoom B1on and G1on pedals I use at work and at home for tuning. The pedals are more pitch sensitive and way better with low b strings. The tuner function is really good.

+1 the snarks aren't very durable. My blue one broke already but still works fine if I'm careful. I have a red one (has a mic) I keep around for checking intonation on wind instruments.

Honestly the 4usd tuner from reverb.com is just as good as these snarks (still terrible low b). Better sensitivity than the snarks I have. Not good for noisy environments though.

In the practice room or studio I find the blue Snark to work perfectly good even on my low B five string basses. The key is to find the most responsive spot on the headstock. With my Fender five strings its usually down near the nut, on my Warwick fives its up at the top of the headstock.
