So, Ariel Castro is dead...

It's interesting that you and others are calling him a pussy for committing suicide. My question is: Do you feel that way about all people that commit suicide? When do you decide whether are not they are a pussy for committing suicide?

The there's the notion of "paying" for what he did. The guy is dead. :D

If they commit suicide after having being caught and convicted for the horrific crimes they commited, yeah, pussy.

I'd never try and tar every suicide case with the same brush, nor be crass enough to imply that anyone else in this thread does.

I've known too many people (heck, one would be too many) to go down the suicide route, presumably because they thought there was no other way. Would never put their issues in the same basket as that sick b*****d.

This is the point that's confusing, he goes for the plea deal to avoid the death penalty.

Obviously he had mental problems, what normal person does a thing like this?

I had a good friend who was the first female apprentice in the San Francisco painters union. A lot of people didn't shake her hand and welcome her warmly. She was threatened and hurt bad enough to end up in the hospital. But she persevered and made it. She had also been through hell and back in her personal life. She had more cajones than most men I know.
She couldn't beat her addiction to drugs and killed herself. No judgement here on my part. Just sadness.

I'll posit that it's because he isn't remorseful and didn't want to give the family the satisfaction of closure by dying by execution and on their terms...but not so tough to make it in jail, and committing suicide, again, to bow out ON HIS terms....it was always about control. Jail is not on his terms...he had every intention of playing it out this way...imo.

Oh, and thank you, Mohawk, I appreciate that.

The same could be said for most criminals who commit heinous crimes. Doesn't mean they deserve sympathy.

He wasn't a stupid man, he knew what he was doing, at least at one point must have realised it was wrong.

As far as the plea part, death puts fear into most people, life in prison probably seemed less frightening, at least til he had to live the life in captivity.

A coward in life, a coward in death.

I guess prison justice was too great a burden, for fellow prisoners surely would have drawn a big target on his back. He probably wasn't long for this world anyway you slice it.

The only good thing about this whole ordeal is that these victims get a second chance at a normal life. We can only hope and pray they adjust fully and are finally happy someday soon.

What you are saying doesn't make any sense to me primarily because you nor I have no idea of how Ariel Castro thinks. It can be equally argued that he was remorseful which is why he committed suicide.

If this was the case he could have made a suicide attempt a long time ago.

Not sure if you just flaat out enjoy being argumentative, but did you MISS the "imo" part at the end? That means, in place of knowing how he thought, I shared my opinion on how I felt he thought. Didn't mean right or wrong, I never claimed it as factual. BUT, I will say in this case you are far more charitable than I.

Oh, and thanks for the cheap shot earlier. I've had friends or friends of commit suicide. I don't take it lightly, thanks.

You state an opinion, I disagree with what your opinion is...there's nothing wrong with that.

Unfortunately I have no idea what you are talking about. I don't know you personally, what you've experienced or who you know.

Close to my thoughts on it, except for the "fully adjusted/happy" part.

Wish them all the best of course and hope they can go on to find happiness in life, but I have to think that after such an ordeal, their views on things like relationships, respect, trust, men, love, sex, etc., whether consciously or subconsciously, would almost have to be forever skewed. This guy took a lot more from them than the 10-11 years they were in his house.

You're right on with the first part. It would be nice if he lived through 11 years of rape and beatings first and then met death on someone's terms other than his own.
