So, Ariel Castro is dead...

Is it big headlines over there? It's been mentioned here, but not in a 'massive breaking news' way.

Opinion? I feel like I did when we found after he died out about Jimmy Saville's horrendous history as a sexual abuser of kids.

Even though I had no emotional connection as such, it just felt incredibly frustrating that he got away with it. Even though Castro was caught, convicted and imprisoned...there feels like a lack of closure that only true justice can bring. Yes, he's dead...but it was on his terms, and that must be tough for the families.

I dunno...I'm just glad stuff like this is only ever a news story to me.

I kind of look at it as poetic justice, and in a small way a win for his victims, It's apparent he couldn't handle, for what, about a week or so?, what his victims endured for ten years and survived. That makes those women way stronger than him, even though he had power over them for ten years.

Castro was treated far more decently in even his short time in prison than he treated his captives for more than a decade. I'm sure he loathed himself.

Thank God Amanda Berry escaped that day. I don't think there would've been any other way those women could've gotten out alive.

Good point bro. I understand why people are shedding no tears for this guy. Still the whole awful situation makes me sad.

Ugh... this guy again? Just when I'd forgotten about this... At least the tax payers won't have to pay his rent. Also, why life plus 1,000 years? I mean, I guess you add up the 900+ guilty pleas and all, but life without parole would have saved someone from doing some rather arbitrary math. And now I can forget about this for good...

Im with you on not wishing ill will upon anyone. But its ridiculous how much our government will support dictators and their family.
I'm not educated enough on the subject to make a valid point. But disgust with hosting dictators needs is my opinion.
I just hope his family is recovering from their loss.

Perhaps you were referring to Fidel Castro, who was indeed a dictator, (WHOOPS...edit: not dead, and egg on my face for misreading / quickreading Wikipedia...man, shows how up I am on Evil Dictator facts)...but I implore you to keep politics out of my thread, thank you.

Thoughts? I'll share mine.

I am on the fence with this. I take no joy in anyone's death, but I am however glad he's not breathing on my dime, as cold as I realize that can sound. Hope no one thinks less of me for that...but, what doesn't sit well with me though is that he plead guilty to get the death penalty off the table, yet he does this? It makes me feel that he learned absolutely nothing, was a sadistic sociopath, and was too much of a pussy to truly "pay" for his misdoings... had he truly learned the err of his ways, he would have accepted the consequences of his actions and served just punishment (I will stop short of an eye for an eye / death penalty debate).

Had he not been caught, he'd keep on doin it all, he had no intention of ever stopping.

It's interesting that you and others are calling him a pussy for committing suicide. My question is: Do you feel that way about all people that commit suicide? When do you decide whether are not they are a pussy for committing suicide?

The there's the notion of "paying" for what he did. The guy is dead. :D

so many condescending geniuses...so little time...
While I didn't join in, I think it's fine. When someone can't be bothered to read even a word of the thread or the linked article, AND they inject politics into the discussion, I say pile on.
