So...I got a Sterling S.U.B Ray4 today...

I’ve played those a few times at Gc, nice bass, I was never a Stingray guy, but the light weight and punchy tone of the SUB Ray impressed me. Nice score, have fun with it. The low price makes it a great deal too.

Why wouldn’t you be qualified to review it? Your opinion is as valid as that of the next person. I’m curious as to the range of tones these provide versus a standar Stingray

I had 2 of the older ones the ones with the older sub logo, and 2 ebmm stingrays. The subs got sold when i got my first ebmm. The subs sound close but sound a little muffled when it comes to the crisp highs of the ebmm. For the price the ray 4 is a great bass.

The parts that came in the box for the straplocks are too small for the screw holes. I meant screw, not nail. I’m stupid....

This was the best bass I played last week at GC. The neck is nice and thin and it sounded great. Just looked at the GC website and they have a vintage cream with white pickguard coming in September. Might have to get one, the blue one I tried looked great though.

Your opinion on the ray is as valid as the opinion of anyone else! Good looking bass. I often go on GC's website and add a used sub ray to my cart. Also scour the classifieds looking for them. I've yet to actually pull the trigger.

I like it, a lot. I don’t think I’m qualified enough to give a review on the matter, seeing as I’m new, but I will say that it looks, sounds, and feels very nice. I wouldn’t know how to accurately describe the sound in comparison to other basses I’ve tried out, so I’ll attempt a vague description. The S.U.B Ray4 has a very low, growly tone, at least to me. I got mine in a blue satin finish. The S.U.B Ray4 feels a lot beefier in comparison to my K.I.A Squier. I’m satisfied with my purchase. I believe I owe thanks to all of you bassists out there who gave me advice and assistance.

Music Man did a fantastic job on their “budget line” of basses. I own two legit EBMM basses, but I’ve almost bought one of the cheaper Rays on several occasions. They just sound amazing, especially for their price point. I’d drfinitely gig with one with no second thoughts.

And if you’re into the growl, check out Gallien-Krueger amps. Music Man + GK = Growl Heaven

The screw should fit most basses, are you sure it's too small? They're supposed to be snug. I've used Schaller on most of my basses with no issues. In the event that it actually is too small- I would see what drill bit fits into the hole on its own (not using the drill), and then go one size up to carefully make the hole bigger.

i broke off some wooden matchsticks,put some Elmers glue in the hole and insert matchsticks..waited to dry, then screwed in the Schaller screws..done it before it always works and they wont come loose...if they wiggle loose with time ,the process can be repeated ...did it with my Own Sub as you can see in my profile

Maybe, post in the luthier section for ideas. An option is to use a toothpick broken off flush with wood glue in the hole. That’ll tighten it up. I use Dunlop strap locks and I have not had that problem. In fact the screws are slightly bigger than my bass guitars original screws. However, I don’t have any music man bass’s so, someone else might have other info

Congrats man! I bought mine a couple of years ago with the intention of modifying it. Out of the box, it's a great bass for the price and it has a great feel to it for sure. I do prefer the decals on your headstock better than the giant "SUB" on mine!

Yes, in these ones (2018) and even those of 2017 like mine doesn´t have that issue.

Thanks! I LOVE my SUB. Not to threadjack here, but I wanted a perfect mix of EBMM Stingray (own one....love it) and a Fender P (never owned a P but I love the sound) so I thought I could mix both. I did some research and this is the end result.

That's good. The volume pot was terrible on mine. It was like an on/off switch between "no noise at all" and "two squirrels fighting to the death in a brown paper bag".
