So I Guess I Like Tweeters

So I've been using these 2x10 Fender Rumble cabs for some time now, and they seemed prone to clicking, clacking, and popping in the worse ways. Then I switched the tweeter on and viola! The nasty midrange frying pan noise from aggressive playing seemed to disappear. The overdrive breakup seems to taper a lot better with all my pedals too. I don't really understand how this makes sense. I guess the main speakers respond in a different manner when the tweeters are engaged?

I don't crank the volume when I'm tone chasing actually. I do push them hard when playing in a band setting though. I have not used the two cabs together in a "regular" way yet, but I have split my signal with an ABY pedal for two totally different sounds. Is there something I should look out for when using both of them with one amp?

I's start using that second cab asap, if you are getting issues with your sound.

I mostly use 2 cabs, even on low volume gigs, for the better tone.

Engaging the tweeter may also engage a crossover. Not all bass speakers sound great full range.

I would recommend using both together.

a single 2x10 is a small cab and can be easily run beyond what it can handle, at least for very long.

Yes on this. Your 500 watt cab being hammered by 400 watts still will damage the cab. The more ‘lows’ you push more change of damage. Even 200-300 watts of really big lows in 500w cab can be bad.

I appreciate the advice guys. Funny thing is I can apparently make my drummer's ears hurt with just one of them; he only complained about that once though. I think I was pushing it a little too hard that time, whoops!
