Every time I post an insturment on craigslist there's this same idiot that offers me half of whatever I'm asking. I'm sure this guy sits around all day doing this for every post he sees, and I"m sure every now and then he gets some great bargains too. The fact that it still for some reason gets to me is my problem, not his.

I'm a Peavey fan myself and have paid $500 or more for a non-Cirrus bass.

Lowball offers are one thing; but this guy was aggressively ignorant in his lowballing. Which means one of two things, he is ignorant which is sad (kudos for sending him the link on the off-chance that he was speaking mostly from ignorance). Or he is very aggressive - insulting your own (quite accurate) knowledge of your instrument and the market.

I'm leaning toward aggressive since 1/2 the market (or a little more on an expensive item) is probably what he looks to spend in order to make a living from reselling. I don't begrudge someone trying to make a living; but I just don't see that particular tactic (aggressive ignorance that insults the person that you are trying to do business with) working that often.

Good luck with the sale.

EDIT PS: You could always spring for the supporting membership and sell it in the TB classifieds. Much better class of potential buyers.

I ran completed listings on ebay for Cirrus USA and only 1 has sold recently: $810 (+60 shipping) was the winning bid. The OP's asking price appears to be in the ball park, but CL shoppers/buyers are usually looking at lower-than-ebay prices. Everything (on ebay) listed above 800 went unsold.

FWIW I listed a Cirrus BXP 5 (on CL) for a reasonable amount. The few responses I received were tire kickers and low-ballers. I'd just as soon keep it as give it away to one of those morons.

IMO, I don't think buyers on CL are looking for "lower-than-ebay" prices. Maybe the flippers, but that's it. The difference between ebay and CL is on CL demand is regional, i.e. it will usually take longer to sell something than ebay due to less demand. However, I regularly sell - and see, for that matter - stuff on craigslist that have higher prices than ebay prices. A CL poster just has to post at the right time, and be patient.

Just because some dough-head responds to your ad with foolishness doesn't mean you need to communicate with them.
Had much the same circumstances selling stuff on Kijiji, I just block those guys' emails after things like that.
They just waste your time.
No need to talk to them, they're not serious buyers, just dinks looking to rip you off.

If a guy wants to negotiate, he would leave out the insulting trash talk. That's no way to conduct any kind of business.
He's just looking for people desperate enough to put up with his crap.

Save the lowball offers for the Pawnshops...those are the real crooks out there...lord knows I have made more than my fair share of profit of off pawnshops and their lack of knowledge...good examples, I picked up a 1959 Gibson LP TV Model needed a refin but was very clean structurally for $385 sold for almost 5 X's that amount...bought a Vintage 1967 refin Tele for around $2,000 sold it for over $4,000. that was not even by trying to negotiate, those were their asking prices...far be it from me to educate them!

Craigslist is for everyday people that need to make a solid return on their stuff...we all want the best deal possible but there are certain roads you don't cross to get that price....

Forgot about the 1984 G&L Skyhawk I bought for $65.00!!!!

i actually buy & sell quite a bit on CL, & i NEVER pay the initial selling price

why ?

because if i'm really interested, that means a trip to the bank to get cash, commuting to BF wherever to check it out, bridge tolls, gas,,, PIA

my time is money

you may get offended by what people offer, ( & if you do you've got some kind of emotional attachment to an inanimate object ) just remember,, it's nothing personal

there's usually a big difference in the amount of cash that some people " want " for an object, & what they'll " take " for the same

I had some guy tell me recently that some of my boutiques came from K-Mart.

Some people have no clue, and prove it constantly.

But maybe your lowballer is trying to get you to negotiate with him.

If someone is offering cash money in this economy, I will at least negotiate with him, as not many people have a lot of cash to drop on instruments.

But I hate it when they tell you what "it is worth". I bought it.
