So I was perusing through reverb and came across this listing.

That is what I was thinking.
I mean a Jimmy Hendrix signature is worth $2700 max.
I love Victor Wooten but a signature on a bass he doesn't actually play?????
Another example of a parking place. The seller is not motivated to sell, or waiting for that rare buyer, and simply parked it there indefinitely.
He is accepting offers, FWIW. But that asking price is kind of a red flag for all but the most eager of potential buyers.

Mine was signed, too, and I still "only" paid 6k... (this was 15 years ago, too); I think this one's sig being so prominent on the body front makes the bass less beautiful, to me.
15 years ago it was probably the same bass as Victor uses too. How long have they been making the standards?
OH! I didn't even notice it was a Standard and not a Deluxe - yeah mine was a dlx with the birdseye maple fretboard.
I think the Std came about several years later but I don't have a clue exactly when.
If I'm being honest, I like Bass Central and I've ordered stuff from them before. But their prices are almost always on the high end of any scale, sometimes outrageously so. This one fits the bill.

Signatures from most musicians have way less value than a lot of people think. Rarity is one of the few things that can increase the value, and a signature from Victor Wooten is not rare.
Hell, Vic appears to be such a nice guy he’d probably be happy to give out his signature after a show or demo. I bet you could pay to fly out to one of his shows, have him sign whatever you want, and fly home and it would still cost half as much as the markup on that bass.

So we are all just discounting the fact Beaver Felton himself ordered and stashed the bass at the back of Bass Central? That is an easy couple grand uptick. I cannot be the only one who loved Superchops. I practice in my car all the time.
I also think we (bass players) overvalue Victor's name appeal. Move outside of bass-centric circles, even within other musician circles, and the name recognition drops off a cliff. How many of your friends/family/bandmates only know about him because of you? The only people in my circle of friends that would be aware of him are Dave Matthews Band cultists.
Most people wouldn't consider $5K reasonable for Taylor Swift's autograph. Imagine trying to tell those people you want that much for an obscure virtuoso bassist's signature.
A Jimmy Hendrix autograph is $2750 max. And he is a dead legend.
You can buy a poster from Sammy Hagar that he will sign for $50 OTD.
I love Victor. I got his book at his "Fun and Funk show" and he signed it for free. Book was $20
I bet if Victor saw the ad, he would be like, "Hell no!"
Bass Central is good dudes. If you saw the amount of guys who visit there with no skills but tons of cash, you would understand why they would do this listing.
