So I was perusing through reverb and came across this listing.

HAHAHHAH I just saw that on Reverb before I logged onto TB. Ridiculously high price...
Of course, a VWYY is a tremendous axe, but to me, the LAST thing I'd want on a fabulous, very rare bass is somebody's writing on it in Sharpie. IF I just had to have this, my first question is 'can I get that off without marring the finish or wood?'. I don't care for these 'signed' axes at all, never understood why I'd want anyone to autograph an axe.
Lol, I'll send you my paypal...you give me the $5050, I'll buy the bass and I'll have *you* sign it. That's the only way I'm getting a Fodera, amigo!
Is it just me? That does not seem like the best example of a flame maple top, especially for a Fodera.
Vic signed that in the worst possible place, too - that signature will rub off quickly if the bass gets any real use. Then it will become "just" a Fodera. He should have signed the upper horn or the headstock.

Those basses are not even worth the asking price with no signature if you ask me...

Agreed. Most artists are willing to sign for free if you have your instrument with you. I bought the Sandberg Ida Nielsen Signature bass last year. She was the bass player for Prince for the last 10 years, and even she signed it for free at the Prince celebration in Minnesota, and took photos w/ me during the signing to verify her signature. I definitely would not pay $5000 for any artist’s signature, especially on a bass that I wanted to play on a regular basis.

Eh, doesn't surprise me. For instance, there are several GK 800RBs for sale at reverb (and have been for aeons, wonder why!??
) for north of grand. 
I bought a 'rare' (no, not really) and coveted "horizontal switch" 800RB off a nice chap here. It was in immaculate shape. Including a gator rack case for it. I think for about $400. . .
Now, what I want to know if why there's seemingly thousands of horribly overpriced listings from sellers in Japan? Gee, I'd love to pay $3k for a regular old Ric 4003s AND pay $175 to have it shipped to me from half a world away. Nope, wouldn't just get one for $1500 all day long from a USA dealer, with Free Shipping. Haven't yet figured it out. Obviously no one is buying, and whos telling them anyone would??! They have to be forking out listing fees ( on ebay) for near zero return. I don't get it. And usually the descriptions are severely limited (and sometimes confusingly so in a esl way). No wonder they keep reposting those ads by the hundreds!

No. I don't think so, but everyone is different. Personally, I feel an autograph devalues an instrument (it's graffiti) Especially if signed on the finish, and especially on the front. To me, instruments are just not for autographs. If you want an autograph, have said person sign a piece of paper, a flyer or ticket from the show, a photo, your T-shirt, you wife's left......well, you get it.
I've passed on a few basses because of autographs, that otherwise would have been of interest. That's just me. If you want to pay an inflated price for a bass with a signature, by all means buy it. Whatever makes you happy.
