So, I'm in the thrift store....

Cruising the local thrift store looking for a potato peeler and walked up on this little guy. Its a Crate BX-50 in like new condition. Didn't take much thought on my part, I gave the guy the $99.00 and walked out with it. Took it home plugged it in and it sounds great. Nice little combo, other than dust, its like brand new, not a scratch in the tolex at all.

I also found a potato peeler for .49 cents.

It was a good day.

There's a word for something like this, don't they call it serendipity? What a lovely tale.
Reminds me of when my wife and I went down the local supermarket on a Sunday once. Came out, heading back to the car and a furniture shop was open, we just said 'go on let's have a look' half an hour later we'd bought a brand new 3 piece suite for £200, we said 'when will you deliver?' 'they said right now' they followed us home in the van with our shopping still in the car took the old suite away while we were still unpacking the groceries and we walked into an almost brand new living room! We still laugh about this 35 years later.

Nice! A Crate BX-15 was the practice amp I first got when I was starting out in early 1994. A lot of magazines said that Crate bass amps sounded cold, contained, or boxy, but I dug the sound out of my Crate. Nice little amp, it was. Surprisingly sturdy too.

This is why we frequent antiques shops/malls. We consider them recycling shops and have found a lot of things we use daily. A great many of these from the late '90s to early '20s (turn of the 20th C. we're talking, here).

Not to derail, but if anyone is interested, my local Foremost Sales (UPS shipping salvage outlet) has a couple of Ampeg Rocket 30w 8" combos for $90 each after discount. New in their boxes. I think RB-108 is the proper model number.

Nice find, although I am curious as to the weight of that Crate BX-50 combo amp. A few years ago, a friend who was downsizing (not just musical equipment, but in all categories) offered to give me a Crate BX-100 combo amp. I accepted gratefully, but soon discovered that the amp is as easy to move around as a wheelbarrow full of lead-coated bricks. I just turned 70, am no longer gigging, record music by plugging into my MacBook Pro, and also primarily play guitar, so the amp now sits in a corner like a big block of cement, but in a nice dust cover that I ordered from LeCover.

Don't tell me... Those lyrics were cowritten by John Lennon, Paul Mcartney, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan. Right? :roflmao:
