So, I'm in the thrift store....

Huh. I never find anything worth grabbing at thrift stores or pawn shops. But I have friends who seemed to score gold pretty often.

Like a guitar buddy who went to a Salvation Army store to look at an old Fender tube guitar amp, about 7 years ago. He's a flipper, so he bought the amp. Then he noticed an old Fender bass in the corner. He's not a bass freak but he knows enough about vintage guitars in general to take a closer look. Turns out the Fender is a 100% orig '57 ano 2-tone. Store clerk says he absolutely has to have $1500 for it because he "knows old guitars are valuable". But my friend wasn't sure of its value and didn't have the cash for it anyway.

Later that day he takes his newly scored tube guitar amp up to Rock n Roll Vintage in Chicago, where he usually goes to sell stuff. They buy the amp, he makes a small profit. While there, he mentions the old Fender bass he saw at the SA store in Tinley Park. After describing the old Fender bass, R&RV gives him $2600 to go right back and grab the '57 P bass on their behalf. Which he does, and picks up another $1100 finder's fee profit for the day. He's elated!....until I told him he should have called me instead, I'd have given $3600 for it. Not long afterwards Rock n Roll Vintage had that bass for sale, priced in the multi-thousands.

Could that ever happen to me? Not in this lifetime. (argh)

Ya know, that peeler works on carrots, too? :D

I bought this at an antiques/salvage shop back in 2012.

Gotta BX-40 from a piano player buddy 20 years ago.
Wasn't working so took it to a shop and for $40 got 'er fixed up.
Was missing a couple of knobs, got some from Mackie.
Was using it for jazz trio gigs in small rooms; worked well.
Kind of weighty for the size, a little awkward to move - but do*able.

It's not a bad sounding amp. A little sterile.
EQ works well and has high and low boost buttons.

In the '80s used to thrift shop for 50/60s pajama tops for stage clothes.
Crazy deco patterns. Still use 'em! = FUN!!

Silly me, I forgot the rules....Here's the peeler, its vintage.

I hate to be “that guy”, but that’s not actually vintage. It’s a modern reissue that some previous owner relic’ed. You can tell because of the shape of the heel, and because of the set screw, which was actually a rivet until March of 2008.

Also the relic looks over-done.

Cruising the local thrift store looking for a potato peeler and walked up on this little guy. Its a Crate BX-50 in like new condition. Didn't take much thought on my part, I gave the guy the $99.00 and walked out with it. Took it home plugged it in and it sounds great. Nice little combo, other than dust, its like brand new, not a scratch in the tolex at all.

I also found a potato peeler for .49 cents.

It was a good day.

Good score. Hard to find a Vintage Potato peeler in that condition for 0.49c. You could probably resell it for 3 times that price!

Oh, the amps pretty cool too!
