So I've decided to quit smoking...

you're just fooling yourself, you are not quitting nor are you ready to quit, and "tried" means a tad more than you seem to think...all you are doing is talking about quitting....

..."im going to smoke tomorrow" "can't do the first day" "while working"and quitting are not compatible.......i'll quit monday, after the holiday, next month, next year,it's all just a load of hooey.........

Well... **** you buddy. I don't care if I'm "ready" to quit. I'm doing it anyway. It needs to happen now, and it's not going to get any easier if I wait.

Guess what? It's monday, and I quit. Just like I said. No smokes, don't want to smoke, not going to go get any, not going to bum any, I'm done.

I've got enough people (friends, co-workers, even my own mother) feeding me the "you can't do it" bull****, and I don't need that. If you're not going to be helpful, get outta here.

Thirteen hours so far.

You CAN do it, don't believe anyone who tells you that you can't.

33.5 hours since my last smoke.

:hyper:

That's something to be proud of. It was around this time that I started telling everyone I quit smoking. I figured if I waited until I had a day under my belt,...then the naysayers wouldn't have any ammunition to say,..."you won't quit",..."I've heard it all before",... The best way to shut those naysayers up is with your actions.

Keep at it man and take it one craving at a time,...remember that a craving only last as long as it takes to smoke the cigarette. Keep your mind occupied. Do some push ups or sit ups,...go for a walk,...do whatever takes to the boredom to a minimum.

Good luck man,...I stoked for you and as always,...we are here for you.

Thanks for the kind words. Your advice to take it an hour at a time has been working for me. Every time I have a craving, I just think "Only twenty more minutes until I've got another hour" and it makes it easier.

Last night sucked though. I woke up at 4 AM and couldn't get back to sleep. Happened about once every hour after I finally did get back to sleep.

Once the hours turn to days, that's when it gets even easier because you start to realize that if you cop out all that hard work (it is hard work) is down the drain.

I don't know what to suggest for the insomnia,...Tylenol PM has a sleep aid in it, but I'm leery of suggesting crutches. If you have insurance and a family doctor,...go talk to him and tell him that your are trying to quit smoking and you are having trouble sleeping.

Stressful situations will be the toughest,...(for me it's driving; I like being in control and unfortunately I can't control other idiot drivers). Those are the times where you can justify copping out. You could say,...I'll just bum a smoke and quit at the end of this stressful situation,...or you can man up and tough it out.

Someone previously mentioned that the admission that you love cigarettes is the first step to realization that you have an addiction. I agree with that,...For me it was a love/hate thing. I loved the break time and the actual act of smoking,...and probably still do,...but I hate how they make me feel and smell.

Even now, I feel like it won't be worth it to smoke. That's not saying that I don't want one, just that it wouldn't be worth it.

I'm sure the insomnia will get better. I've always had sleep problems.

lol you even nailed me on the head with that. since my first post on here i've been one day alcohol free. i gave up. i just got to much on my mind to change the one thing thats been solid for me. plus i like drinking during gigs, so that would ruin being sober for me right now anyways. :)

Alcohol is a different beast. If you're actually seriously addicted to alcohol you need to get some medical help.

The withdrawals can kill you if they're severe enough.
