So My Girlfriend's Becoming a Vegetarian...

Absolute zero, my girlfriend doesn't like kissing me right after I've eaten meat, although if your girlfriend has only recently stopped eating meat then she might not care or just not notice.
So, I've got a limited window of oportunity to nip this thing in the bud?
Find a new girlfriend.
Eh, this one's closing in on commonlaw wife status. I'd be hardpressed to find another that'll put up with me.

Even if she doesn't eat meat... she's not going to cause enough of a dent in the American meat market to make them give a flying flip. Americans consume vast quantities o meat a day, one or two hippies isn't going to stop that from happening.

And in my experience, most slaughterhouses are relatively humane, despite being places where they kill stuff. Turkies, for example, are killed very quickly. High-voltage shock knocks them out, then they're killed, generally by slitting their throats. Cows normally get a high pressure air-shot slug right to the brain, instant kill. Pigs, electrocuted and killed like turkies.

Generally, the only place that I have issues with when it comes to food animal slaughtering is KFC, and that's just because I find the videos of the empoyees distasteful, and the conditions of their slaughterhouses unsanitary - doesn't make me want to stop eating chicken.

Well stopped meself @15 ;50+ now ,not over weight ,no high cholesterol/blood sugar it did me no harm at all and I did not stop for the sake of the animals, just objected to the poisons antibiotics/hormones and the like that they feed em to make a profit;for true chickens have changed a lot in my life time.!
Made concessions in later life though such as some sea fish the sea is so vast they can not adulterate them all.
One thing though the day will come when she will not kiss you when you smell of rotten cooked flesh:rollno:

P.S if you luv the meat more than her time to get new GF.

I bet you can find around a hundred other things she does/use that has been made by brutally killing something or exploiting someone badly. I suggest you tell her she is a hypocrite unless she completely undress and scrape a living by farming her own vegetables.

Hehe for true that works on moral ground but not in a case like mine a biker me decked in leather from head to foot but will not ingest any of it even my tooth brush is nylon not natural pig bristle ;might be a problem though as plastics have a high count of carcinogenic compounds associated with their man-ufactor time to get a african chewing stick:help:

I see two issues/possibilities. One, the gf is is an annoying harpy and vegetarianism isn't really the issue. If this is the case, you probably need a new gf. Two, you're being a dick, and a spineless one at that. If you don't want to be a veg, then don't. And at the same time, you need to respect her choices. Honestly, there are more valid reasons to abstain from meat than not.

This might be the most ignorant post I've read on TB.

If I eat a really, really greasy meaty meal and then go on to immediately make out with her really passionately without wiping my face or brushing my teeth, what are the chances that the Pavlovian combination of my impressive tonguework and the taste of meat will combine to reverse her new interests?

If the meat is bacon, I'd say your chances are good :)

Really, I think you're hosed, unless this is a phase. I had a friend whose wife went vegetarian. He tried to accomodate her while still eating meat, and held out for a few months. Then one day he's cooking me tofu Stroganoff in an effort to convince me that meat wasn't necessary to enjoy food. I enjoy plenty of meatless meals, but that one was a lost cause. He wasn't happy, she wasn't happy, and reluctant vegetarianism was just one more thing piled on.

They divorced later over issues caused by the complete lack of communication that allows one person to decide to go vegetarian without discussing the lifestyle changes involved with the other. Hopefully for you guys, the vegetarian thing isn't a symptom of a larger problem.

I don't get the big deal. I've dated a vegetarian and I really love meat even though I do get occasional self esteem problems because of that. Anyhow, vegetarian food can be delicious. When the girl I dated did the cooking, I was very happy to eat it. Healthy, tasty and really cheap. What's not to like? Especially indian veggie foods are often delicious. And if I did the cooking, I just made the same stuff in two pots, one with meat and one without.

The thing is over but I still eat and sometimes even cook vegetarian food. And I got to say this, a friend from Eritrea is one of the best cooks ever and does only vegetarian food. If I could create food like him I'd be happy to eat vegetarian food all the time.

It's not the ingredients, it's what you do with them.

That would likely cause my follow up thread to be: "So My Girlfriend's Becoming Too Damn Difficult to Shop With.":hmm:
If there's even a shred of truth to this statement, her being vegetarian is NOT going to be your biggest problem with her.
Wait, you pressure her to eat meat, and she shouldn't do the same with vegetarian food?

This eating habits question is more symptom than issue.
We're both passionate, passionate people.:hmm:

My issue is more, now I have to work to include meat in meals where previously meat was guaranteed. By her becoming a vegetarian, I am forced to become a meat advocate to uphold my status quo.

I'll probably get my man card pulled for this, but honestly, relationship involve compromise and "drift" IMO. Each partner takes on some of the aspects of the other. It's inevitable when you live with someone that you won't be influenced by them. I don't currently want to be the vegetarian guy, but living with a vegetarian will, at the least, force me to work harder to keep up my carnivorous ways.

From my own personal experience - this will be tough for you both.

When my lady & I first got together, she only ate fish. She got me to start eating fish (and liking it too!). Vegetarian chili, fake 'meat', vegetables, etc. Before we lived together, I'd eat meat when I was by myself or when we went out to dinner.

Then we moved in together, and meals became more difficult. More vegetarian-friendly meals, fish, etc. Different schedules allowed for each of us to cook our own foods as needed. We continued food shopping separately as well.

Then she started eating poultry, which opened up the meals tremendously. She makes dinner almost every night, and its hot on the table when I come home (YEAH!).

Since June, I've been eating a predominately Paleolithic diet, i.e., grass-fed meats, nuts, fruits, eggs, eliminating processed foods, dairy, grains, and sugars. It is more difficult now, as I eat about a pound or so of meat every day, so we pretty much have to cook our own meals again, although we try to plan out when we can eat together, where I eat fish or poultry with her.

I'll never stop eating red meat, and she claims she'll never eat red meat. 10oz of uncured bacon & 4 free range eggs is one of the tastiest breakfasts EVER. Chicken sausage or turkey bacon simply won't do.

Best of luck to ya!

ian

Better hope she doesn't find this thread or her lack of meat consumption will be the least of your problems. Try some understanding and acceptance, but don't let her make you stop eating meat. It honestly can make some people pretty sick to not get enough protien. My wifr had strep throat 9 times in a year while not eating meat. Once she went back to meat, she was fine.
