So Talkbass Has A Store Now...

Again, there's no conflict with anyone. All of Jason's posts that advertise his business in his sig and avatar? He posts those for free. It's a conflict with us to allow those to stay up, but they aren't being censored or deleted.

Your signature is an advertisement, as well as your continued presence here. You know this- otherwise you wouldn't have your signature there and you wouldn't feel the need to leave the forum if it drew business to a business other than yours.

Does my signature violate the CUP?

Signatures are optional to be viewed by the forums users.

"YOU'RE FIRED" drumsticks

We actually had a store here years ago. Paul even put up a t-shirt submission contest. This was my submission

To view posters signature is optional. Users have the option to view them. The Store button is static users do not have an option to turn that off. So you force your paid users to view an advertisement.

I've never emailed directly your members paid users advertisements for my store. I do not have the ability to do so. You have emailed users advertising your product (the store).

I could be wrong about this, but I don't believe users currently have the ability to turn off the viewing of someone's avatar. Yours happens to list your site's name. That is an advertisement that users (paid and non-paid) are forced to see.

I am not choosing sides here. BSO has been good to me in the past and and will probably continue to shop there. I just wanted to point that out.

Where did you get that $11.00 minimum? My shipping for a T was $3.45. It is on its way. Get an email with tracking info. Very professional from what I see. I don't know about sales tax where you are, mine was $1.65.
Yesterday, when I ordered it, the cheapest postage available was $11.00 and change...(Just checked invoice...Shipping cost: $11.72)
Just checked the store again and see that the cheapest is now $3.45!!!.....I wuz robbed I tells yer :jawdrop:

If my avatar is in violation of the CUP then please let me know. It has been the same avatar for years. I have been informed of CUP violations and none referred to the avatar.

I appreciate the support!

Actually yes since you mentioned it- signatures must be not bolded and contain no sales advertising or pitch- yours has both. But we haven't edited it. And again, you know it's an advertisement- you wouldn't have it there otherwise. Users being able to turn off signatures is irrelevant- most don't and you're banking on that, otherwise you wouldn't have put it up.

If there was truly a conflict of interest, I wouldn't have spent half this thread trying to convince you to stay here. It doesn't benefit the TB store to do it- it's rather the opposite.

I work for a large media company and we monetize everything we possibly can. We also sell advertising to and work with competitors in mutually beneficial ways. On a macro level, I don't see a lot of difference as it relates to whats going on here with the store. If I'm in Paul's shoes, I would most definitely be looking for ways to monetize my assets. Outside vendors may still maintain their presence here and take advantage of the massive, specific audience this site affords them. To shut down that resource because one feels its not "fair" for TB to have a store is certainly a business decision that can be made. However, its not one that I think makes a lot of sense and not one I would make on a whim without clearly understanding the impact to my business.
And if it's a perceived issue about integrity/ethics, why is it being discussed in public ?

The thread itself is what's "wrong" here.

The CUP doesn't mention avatars, so I'd say you're fine. I just wanted to mention that because you talked about the ability users have to hide sigs. So even they hide sigs they'll still see your avatar.

It really sounds like the moderators do have an interest in the store though. I know it really doesn't matter what the members think but...

We don't. We haven't been asked to promote the store, and we don't get any kind of monetary kickback for anything involving the store (or anything- we're all 100% volunteer)

I would venture to say that this thread has done more promotion for the store so far than anything else.

I'll edit both. And I'll also PM you a photo of the Sig I modeled mine after... I expect you to have it removed as well.
