So... This is what GAS feels like

This is what GAS is.
Last year I joined another band.
I don't have a car so it was pretty hefty to get my equipment from one rehearsal spot to another.

So I sold my trusted SVT-3 that I've had for 13 years and bought a Tonehammer 500.
Loved that Tonehammer. Used it on several recordings and gigged with it throughout 2016.

Then Darkglass comes out with the microtubes 900. Since I'm using the B7K Ultra as a preamp I want to have the M-900.

So I sell both my B7KU and TH-500 and place an order on the M-900.
What happens next is this,
I ordered the new amp in november. I'm pretty much ampless at this point.

December comes, got a few gigs aproaching. Still no amp. And no real answer from the store I've ordered the M-900 from.
I have to borrow equipment for the gigs and buy a used Tonehammer DI. And a new B3K.

Then I find in the classified a used Aguilar DB 750.
GAS is strong. January comes. I sell off a few more pedals purchase the DB 750 and cancelled the Darkglass amp.

The DB 750 is fantastic! and loud! But it is blowing breakers like a MoFo. It's an older model and I now I can fix it or buy a power conditioner. But I can't deal with more money and more equipment right now.

Thankfully the seller traded the amp back and I got my money back.
Then a friend of mine sold me his GK rig. GK Fusion 550 and a 412 Neo cab.

I never really had any problems with my previous gear either. Haha.
I really need to stop...

Sounds like you can get a tone you love with any amp

I play in a few different bands and all are pretty different from eachother. From one off rockabilly shows to death metal. And all in between.

And I've learned the hard way that my tone is not what always works. And cutting frequenzies is probably better that boosting everything to 11.

What sounds good in a rock setting does not apply with the 100w marshall stack with bass boost and mid scoop metal setting.

Glad I stopped using the sansamp bddi a few years ago. That thing gave me a few gray hairs. But still. I liked it.

So I adapt, and I learn, and I curse and I prevail. haha.

But my policy is that it should be portable and have enough juice to shake my pants and gut.

Adjust eq accordingly. probably why I have a few pedals so I can set my sound more to where i want them to sit in the mix.

And GAS just makes everything uhm.. smoother.
If I just could own everything. Life would be simpler.

What I'd do is get a class D amp with an FX loop (like a TH500) and then just get the preamps of choice to plug into the power section as and when you please. B7K Ultra, GK Plex, Mesa Subway, etc. etc. you just end up with 4-5 different amps for a fraction of the price. Almost all class D amps use the same B&O power section anyway, right?

Yeah, but you know... GAS.

That's why I have some kind of preamp on my pedalboard. Or just the preamp in the actives. A amp just gives me the overall sound on stage. Mostly it's DI so focusing on the amp sound is useless. Not useless. But I use it to get the overall sound on stage.

That's why I sold my B7K ultra. I never used it clean. I always had the overdrive set to low gain. That's why I wanted that Microtubes 900. And eliminate the use for a preamp.

But the Gk Fusion 550 is great and does what is says on the label. And it's loud. A more manageable loud. than the DB 750. And I'm more happier with just the B3K. And I have the Tonehammer DI if I need some additional EQ.

I've just gotten lost in gear and EQ and it is so much fun. But in the end all you have to do is have fun, plug in and play your ass off.

Totally. I've got my GK rig that I have no intention of selling off, felt I need a 'traditional' amp in the stable anyway, and my Mesa rig for that sound.

I'm kicking around the idea of getting a super hi-fi rig (Glockenklang, Eich, etc.) because at this point why not!

There is so many cool amps and awesome sounds out there and everything needs to be explored. GAS me curious. But whatever gear it is I always sound like me. more or less with good tone or awesome tone.

But hey, I got a few cabs now. Lost an awesome amp, gained another and a great 412. always liked those 412 Neo's.

So now I can leave the two svt 410's at rehearsal. and get the old Fender bxr 115 back from retirement. looking forward to test out a few different cab settings with the GK.

I understand your frustration, but falser words have seldom been written :).
Each thing you own is like a rock in your pack.....and at some point you'll have to carry it, insure it, repair it, find a place to put it, protect it, pay tax on it.........................

Yes, you are quite right. But I just think of hauling my s*** from place to place workout. It feels good when I'm finished.

On a serious note. There is no frustration. Only GAS.

Story of my life hahaha

I went through this same exact thing pretty much about 5 years ago. I also joined TB around then. It all started when I thought my Yorkville Bassmaster 400 blew out. It sent me on a roller coaster of a ride for about a month. It led me to an old GK SBX cab that I had issues with from the moment I got it home to the time I took it back to the store a third time for repair leaving it that time to get my money back. I’m happy though, that led me to the GK Neo 410 which I’ve been using ever since with nothing but praise for it. Come to find out though, there was nothing wrong at all with the Yorkie haha I had a bad instrument cable. This was before I joined TB remember. I have learned a ton since then.

But yeah man, I feel ya dude. Sucks you didn’t get the D900! But it sounds like you’re happy so that’s great! Half the battle. I’ve been through so many pieces of gear, mostly pedals, over the last 5 years and its pretty much all because of GAS. It was rare that I actually needed to get something out of nesscity. It was mostly either GAS or the search/experimentation for tone/sound.

Ahh, the days when all I had was a tuner...
Now it's should I get overdrive from my amp? Clean amp?
Or my pedals? Should i be overdriving my distortion or distort my overdrive or overdrive my overdrive my overdrive while i phase my wah?

Well GAS got med at GK rig. Did not see that one coming when I sold the tonehammer.
Yeaahh. So now it's back to the older "which tubes should I get for my hybrid..."

Down another hole. Haha.

If the amp is blowing breakers (at the service panel I assume) then the breaker is bad, the breaker or circuit is undersized, there are other things operating on that breaker's circuit or your amp has a problem.
A power conditioner won't fix any of the above.

Kinda wonder how it is that you can trip a breaker (back at the panel I assume) without blowing a fuse in the amp first? Have you checked to see if it has the proper fuse, both in amperage and how it blows, fast-blo or slow-blo, is installed? If not you could harm the amp.
