You’d never know it by some of the responses to this thread. Not to mention, if everyone knows it’s none of their business how someone spends their own money, how does the idea of it qualify as a topic of conversation. I have never once looked at someone with a custom car, latest and greatest cell phone or a pair of fifteen hundred dollar handmade custom cowboy boots and wondered why, because i already know the answer.

So what does a $25k bass actually get you?

I may be the only one, but I take care of my cheapest bass just as well as I do my most expensive bass. Same goes for my cars. I probably took care of my first car which was way cheaper than my current car because I had time for it. I was basically just a student with a part time job so it was nothing to vacuum and wash it once a week. Now I have other things to do, but I still drop sunflower seeds and spill coffee in it all the same.Somebody might buy it but will they ever play it?! Reminds me of this young idiot in a commercial who bought a luxury car and then stops for a burger and slobbers all over the leather and his obviously expensive wardrobe. Sheesh... some people...
They're still donations. Pretty sure the recipients couldn't care less.

Nope... not necessarily. Not that there's anything wrong if it were.
It's funny, some people seem to think that at a certain price point, typically beyond what they'd pay, vanity is the key motivator. When IRL most people wont even know what you bought. That doesn't exactly build self-esteem IME.

I do too but I guess you’d have to see the commercial, I’m not always good at conveying stories.
Oddly enough a lot of people equate the physical size of something with what they believe it should be worth. When i was in the motorcycle biz i heard it all the time, “I could get a car for that kind of money!”...it's the same amount of money yet many think its "different" money...
...Think.
With that kind of money you could hire Anthony Jackson to come by every day and play it for you.
These days my main players are a birdsong short bass and a gibson sg. I would spend up to about $2500. tops on a bass, anything over that is just cash down the drain imho!
So, with the revised thread title, IF one had that kind of coin for a bass guitar, one could go shopping for something like this:

Alembics do tend to be weighty; so, one of my specs would require a build under 9.5 pounds or so.
My reality is that I would NEVER spend that much on a bass guitar. But, it is possible to get substance for your dollar, even at that price point. They’re not all just pretty faces.

gets you in debt, gets the manufacturer out of debt...Maybe the exotic wood they use, but i really wouldn't see a need in a bass that expensive, unless your trading it off to make more money from it...imho
I'd want to be using at least paper notes for that sort of amount, not coins!
According to Scott's Bass Lessons they are only going to ask you to use a PB anyway!
Where/when does it end? One poster has every color Pbass available. Another has three that sound distinct from each other. Another has one booteeqee. Or three. Where’s the course and certification that says we can judge what’s correct for someone.
Belief that music is egotistical so having a nice bass is also is founded upon what?
Car analogy: Guy drives by in a Porsche. He’s a snob who thinks he’s better than you. Is he? Who’s thinking this? You are it’s your own sense of self worth. You know I actually know people of old money. They aren’t thinking about it. When they talk to you they actually want to know what you think.
What if Porsche guy just loves cars. What if driving a car that handles well is his priority. What if he doesn’t eat out or have every cable channel to feed his Porsche habit?
A guy asked me why I paid for Microsoft Windows because Bill is so rich. So now I’m to steal from him? He is rich because he made a product we need and want. He didn’t coerce any one to buy his products.* He gave $100 million to fight AIDS in Africa. That’s where my $100. went.
*(Actually several governments found they did force manufacturers to pay licenses even if they didn’t include Windows.)
