I don't what it is but there is just something about the look of a Ric, other than their sound which is different from any other bass. The design is awesome, sadly they are out of my price range. If i was gigging constantly I could justify the at least twp grand it would take to get one. But they are awesome. This virus thing is cutting into my gear fund. I'm looking into an overseas copy which are fabulous by the way. The Asian copies have improved greatly. Plus I miss gigging with real people without masks on their faces. And crowds of people dancing and singing. You don't realize what you miss until it's gone. Wait! Sounds like a good song title. Gotta go.

The current Asian "Chickenbackers" are pretty grim, though they can look vaguely like a Ric if you squint really hard.
They appear to be actually based on a Rockinbetter (presumably "shared" when Rockinbetter shifted production to China) and so have all the mistakes of that design.
The only reason for buying a Chickenbacker is if you play in a Motorhead tribute band and need one of the carved-front models cheap.
