So who does NOT have a VT Bass?

I think this is one of those deals where if you buy a certain kind of car in a certain color all of a sudden you start noticing all the other ones that are like it on the highway.

That car is still in the vast minority, but suddenly it seems like everyone's got what you've got.

I have one and still messing with it to find its sweet spot for my sound. Its my only effect pedal, as I'm not a huge fan of effects. I can usually get the sound I need from my amp but I will say it fattens up my 2x12 cab I'm running it with right now. Its just a little fuzzy for me yet.... it is a touchy pedal for sure. I can see it useful for a Geddy or flea sound, I just haven't dialed it in fully for my liking yet. It certaintly wont be an "always on" pedal for me, but it will have its place from time to time. I kick it on for "By the way" by rhcp, and it grinds very nicely during that bass break..

I got to try it out at a TB get-together and hated it. I've also tried a couple other "ampeg in a box" pedals and hated them too. Then actually tried out an SVT in a store and realized I just don't like the Ampeg sound.

That's why I like almost every other Tech21 pedal except the VT. I'm not a big fan of the SVT's "gloggy" nasal mid-focused overdriven sound.

I'm a huge fan of the Marshall sound though.

That's probably why I love Darkglass effects.

When I started lurking around these parts, the VT was all the rage. So much that in the end, I found it annoying to hear about it all the time.
"Want dirt ?" Get a VT !
"Want grit?" Get a VT !
"Want funk ?" Get a VT !
"Want to get laid ?" Get a VT, for chrisssakes !

And it got worst (IMO) when the Deluxe version came out. So I ended up sorta hating it, basically 'cause it was a fad (I have an eternal thing for the underdog, what can I say...).

I still go against all fads (...). Nothing against the faddish pedals per se. It's.... visceral, I guess. I have a PBDDI, if it ever dies, I might give the VT a run, just because it's a Tech21 product.

If you guys stop talking about it, I might eventually buy one.

;)
