So who does NOT have a VT Bass?

I don't have one. I have several real tube Ampeg amps.
I suppose if I had one of those 3 ounce, fit in your shirt pocket amps, I might want one.

I did use it as a pre, and still have it on my board now after my ts9b to beef up the TS sound. I have it set to just give me a fat low end grunt and drive when I need it. It's the same manner in which I used my BDDI I owned previously. I really like Sansamp as my if all else fails option though.

The reason I don't use it as a pre anymore is because I bought a Zoom B3 and am now using that at the end of my chain as a pre and multi unit. I've found though that the vt is touchy, but by getting to really know how the knobs work, you can get a wide variety if sounds and even defeat the Sansamp sound. I AB the B3 with the different settings I use on the VT and there aren't any sounds I've found I can't emulate with the VT.

However, what I have found is that the overdrive and distorted sounds on the VT are what make it really unique from just another Ampeg box. I can't make the B3 or any other drive/amp emulation combination sound like my VT does when using it for distortion.

I got BDDI deluxe, as much as I'd like to try the VT version I'd probably want to keep both and I'm happy enough with the BDDI I don't need to gas. It's my preamp with eq pedal and fx.

i use the wmd geiger counter tubey od for the twiggy ramirez tone, otherwise i just use the mesa d180 clean or fuzzed out like jesus and marychian

+1 I've owned a bunch of pedals... I always want to like them, but the thrill usually wears off in a few days, then they sit around and collect dust, and then I get rid of them. It may just have to do with my own subjective taste and preference... but I just find that I like the clean, fat tone of my bass, as is, so much that any pedal I run it through simply infringes on it's awesomeness
On a relevant side note, I bought a VT when they first got popular here on TB... just another pedal that seemed like a great idea, in theory, but ended up being useless for me once I owned one

I hear that. Some of us like the true tone of our bass with a lot of grind to go with it. I found the Ampeg stuff colors my original tone, whereas some pedals add to it, rather than fully transforming it. But clean tones are not what I go for, so i need something

i had one, sold it for a EBS microbass. Liked the tubey gain and the presence it adds to the sound so i kinda miss it. But as my basses are getting better, i wanna go for cleaner pedals. Dun remember how clean is the VT bass on a neutral setting, but my bass BB preamp is super clean with the gain down and everything noon, so im happy with it as my main overdrive now

I got one when they first came out but didn't really use it for a year because I couldn't find the sound i liked with it.

A year or more later, i finally learnt what each knob does and how they interact. Became a pedal i'll always play with and never turn it off.

2/3 years later, sold it for a VT bass deluxe and it's always on for me.

I currently do not own a VT. I used to!

Back when I was trying to get a good tubey sound without using an all-tube amp, I tried the VT (it was the Deluxe model). It sounded okay, but it didn't quite give me what I wanted. So I sold all of that stuff and I now have three all-tube vintage Ampeg amps:

'91 SVT-II nonpro 300 watt
'73 V4B 100 watt
'73 B25B 50 watt

Me so happy (except when it's schlep time, then me not so happy, but as soon as I plug in, me so happy again!)

The new one coming out has the DI native to it.

You can get a Class D amp for WAY less than 600, and the VT Bass v2 is 169

Yes, I have one - I admit I don't use it much. It does get great distortion, but I never use distortion. It warms up my TC BG250 combo, but not enough I would use a pedal ( I don't use any others)

Just got a RBI though...
