So you decided to buy a Flanger...

And you bought (insert brand name and model here) and you picked it because?

Looking for a Flanger for my board for basically one song in our set....most of my local stores have none in stock (aside from the Boss BF-3 and i really really don't like Boss pedals) so i can't really try any out locally....Don't want to spend more than $150.00

suggestions? and why? go...

I have a Boss BF-3 and a Boss BF-2B. USed the BF-3 as is and did some mods to the BF-2B and enjoy both. Then I found a DOD FX72B for $7 and found the flanger I was meant to have.

Hunt for the DOD, only a few knobs and works like a charm.

I use the flanger after fuzz and overdrive and really enjoy the sounds I get from all of them as each adds its own character.

I love my old Maxon FL-01. It can be set very subtle but you can make it do some pretty crazy things - one of those pedals that you can really 'play' - have to be creative with muting and articulation. That's why I like a Flanger over say, a Chorus (which I like but it's a kinda nice cozy blanket over dynamics). There was a mint Maxon FL9 in the classifieds at a very good price recently (I think $158 shipped) that may still be around. That's the current version of my pedal.

foot print isn't all that friendly...and i already have a chorus (same reason i ruled out the Fulltone Choralflange) aside form the price

just reading about some volume issues with the MXR

some QC issues with the Vortex....

and they were both on my radar....

i suppose i could go for the Neo Mistress but i didn't care for the GUITAR Demos i saw and heard...

I know you don't like Boss, but I really like my BF-2 that I picked up used for $40. Can't beat that. Not sure if you've tried the BF-2 but it's a much different beast than the sterile sounding BF-3. Please don't sigh or anything, I'm just throwing the BF-2 up for reconsideration.

My first pedal, bought new in the 1980s (around $80 Cdn if I remember correctly),
built solid as a tank.
Slightly bigger than Boss pedals, it will fit in one pedal board slot if you have a little extra room on either side.

The only drawback: it needs a bit more juice than the standard Boss pedal, so it's modded to have the original power supply hardwired to the chassis.

It can produce a very nice deep, wide sweep. Sounds huge.
Might be hard to find, though.

Even though I don't own one (I'm looking into possibly doing so one day) why not check out the MXR Micro Flanger? I tried it out at a local music shop and it's a pretty nice, flexible little pedal; sounds great with some delay and dirt as well. Most flange pedals I toy around with sound rather thin and sterile but this one is an exception, very warm and thick sounding. I see footprint matters to you and it's rather small ('specially for a MXR pedal) and it can be had for rather cheap (around $80 new or so). Try to find one used and see if you like it...

if you go back a few posts you will see that i mentioned this pedal as being on my radar....that and the EHX Neo Mistress...both are around the same point and foot print....however in the demo videos i watched the Mistress did sound rather tinny even on guitar!

still leaning towards the MXR Micro (M-152) however i read a couple threads here complaining about a volume issue associated with this pedal...

unfortunately of the four music stores in my area none of them stock ANYTHING other than the Boss BF-3 or the Eddie Van Halen Models....including guitar center...

and none of them will special order without money up front

i really liked the TC Electronics Vortex Demos i saw....again however a lot of complaints here about QC associated with this pedal
