I rarely use flange so I just take it from my EBS UniChorus when I'm in the mood.
Though I wouldn't necessarily recommend the pedal for flange. When I need to record a flange sound, I gotta say I borrow my friend's BF-2!

Has anyone tried the Strymon Orbit (Invalid Link Removed)? They make great stuff. The demos on their product page sound good, but they don't seem to demonstrate the real "jet plane" type of sound that I associate with flangers. It could just be the demos, though.

My two favorite flangers on Bass (in this order): MXR M-117R (for warm natural tones), Boss BF-2 for 80's cold and cutting tones.

The MXR one is pretty good. I liked the Boss one better, though-- I found that it sounded more conspicuous with my rig, while the MXR tended to get a bit lost.

i picked up a cheap Source Audio flanger - slightly bigger footprint (not like a SA pro) but great range of sounds. Only issue for me is a slight lack of low end, but I have it in a clean blend loop which makes it awesome.

+1 for the Maxon FL-9 mentioned on the last page. Everything you could want from a flanger, and in a normal sized enclosure. Swoooshy, and plenty of variation in the controls. But then, I really like ALL Maxon's 9 series modulation pedals.

Line 6 Tonecore Liquaflange, small footprint, inexpensive, MANY varieties tone and, for me, dozens of useful sounds. Got mine used for $55.

this is a fairly current photo of my board except the OC-3 has been replaced with a micro pog.....as you can see there is a digitech Chorus there (the only reason it's there is i needed one and i got this for 35.00) i strongly dislike the sound, but it does what i need it to do and will at some point get replaced (possibly with an analogman with deep mod)

on the far right you will see the phase 90 (which i want to replace with a flanger) currently using it in the above mentioned song...only reason it is there is i got it in a trade...it's passable for the song but doesn't quite make the sound i want...

would prefer a Flanger non digital and warm with a smallish footprint and less than $150.00 new....and if i can help it no boss/digitech style pedals i just can't stand the overall aesthetic and i'm not a fan of the bypass or the switch...

everything on the board get's used in our set (hence my reason for them being on my board)

found a good deal on one of these used....still can't try before i buy.....anybody have any experience with this brand.....i know nothing about them

DOD FX-72 blows all the Boss flangers away. You can only get it used now, but it's thick, warm, juicy and inexpensive. Just look around for one and you'll find it pretty quickly. It's my favorite flanger on earth for normal flanger stuff. I also have a Flanger Hoax that I use for the super wacked-out stuff.

Yeah I agree. And heck if ya don't like the bypass, I'm sure someone can mod it for TBP

I just checked out more about Modtone, it seems to be rebranded Belcat Pedals and the Belcats are really cheap (about 1/2 price of the Modtone).

I am doing a similar thing, it is in the trs insert of my Growler's channel 2. The result is that the SA Flanger is flanging the generated harmonic sound only. Blended back into my dry signal, it sounds awesome.

I mean if Modtone is rebranded Chinese stuff, you might as well check out Joyo and Biyang. The Joyo is around $45 new, the Biyang is about $58. They both have 4 knobs, "true" bypass, etc.
