So You Think IN-Ears Is The Answer??

NOT!!

My guitar player was wearing his in-ears and the sound guy messed up and caused major feedback
and now my guitarist is thinking of leaving the band. His hearing has taken a kick in the arse!

The thing is... he would give me crap, cause I wouldn't wear them and I was the only one to have a
set of monitors in front of me. Now... who's laughing and giving crap?? Well, I'm not that big of a jerk.
So, I feel for him. But you will NEVER get ME to wear those pieces of poo!

Besides, I play ROCK&ROLL and REAL rock&roll is about the music AND the show. The show also
incorporates a stage full of gear!! Without it... it just isn't Rock&Roll.

For those who are just too damn lazy to carry around their gear and whine and cry about it... I say
leave the music to the big boys and get the freak out of the business!!

We have no road crew. I have to carry BOTH my 810's and Ampeg 6 Pro in rack and NEVER whine
about it. In fact, I am proud to do so!!

What about those of us who play in bands where there are no stage monitors? Should we get out of the business as well and leave the music to the big boys? By the way, there are lots of "real" rock and rollers out there with real back issues because they insisted on being real men. :)
There are also those who never work out to keep their bodies in shape and then have no excuse. I am sure there is an exception to every rule. But this is rule for me and for most others... I have witnessed, there seems to be more laziness than anything.
A drummer I met said he got rid of one of his floor toms because it caused him some back pain when he turned to hit it. I asked him if he ever worked out and he said he didn't have the time.
Nice...
If we don't take the time to take care of ourselves, we most likely won't be playing for long anyways.

@derrico1, Thanks for your empathy!

Maybe if the guitar player could here the floor monitors over your stupid too big and loud rig he wouldn't need IEMs. Just a thought.

I can't tell you how many real rock and roll bands u have seen that use IEMs. And then a lot of great one that aren't quite to the level who don't use them. And of course, the 99% of people not in some major band who either do or don't. I don't know what kind of stereotypes are being tossed our, but they didn't become huge for pros for no reason. That said, either everyone uses them or no one uses them. And have an awesome sound guy. You don't cover those two things, you shouldn't have them. For the most part.

Even with the better in-ear systems with limiters, there is a chance for a malfunction. I know that for a fact, because it happened to me one time. My ears rang for days.

I am not as against them as the OP, but I will never fully trust in-ear monitors. They do have many advantages when they work well.

Thank You! My thing is... I like to hear everything that is going on with my natural ears along with the wind while playing outdoors. i did try
in-ears a few times and just didn't like the things hanging on my head. I want to be FREE!! 8)

I'd like to be totally ampless & IEM onstage someday.

I don't give a damn about childish "ROCK&ROLL and REAL rock&roll is about the music AND The show also
incorporates a stage full of gear!! Without it... it just isn't Rock&Roll....bla...bla..."..eff that...
