Stuff like that will just dry them out and cause the skin to crack. If you are having soreness in your fingers, try some Fret/Finger Ease otherwise keep playing and taking frequent breaks, you do now want raw skin or blister. Your fingers will eventually toughen up.

Salt brine. Makes yer hands harden up like rocks. When I was a kid I was introduced to a fighter. Shaking his hand felt like a piece of granite. He said "salt brine hardens the hand". I'll never forget that meeting.

If you're seriously looking to toughen your hands up, try surgical spirit. It's what mountain bikers use to toughen their hands and keep their calluses thick.

At the same time though, you don't really need to do that though, all you do is play bass. Just keep playing and your hands will toughen up in time!

They still have a fair bit of life to them and it was a good 3-4 months ago, I find it alot harder to tell with acoustics cos they fact it's acoustic seems to give alot of life to the sound though. Maybe I stuck a little fast fret on and it saved them :p My fingers really really hurt at the time though so it was worth it.
