You can grab a Peavey Nitrobass or Firebass for around 150 bucks every once in a while. 450 at 2ohm or 700 watts at 2ohm. Maybe 30ish lbs.

Also Carvin BX500 you can pick up used for around 300. 500 watts at 2ohm and very light with a decent tube pre. Less than 10lbs I think.

I have owned these and the Carvin sounds much better to my ears. The Peavey amps are built like tanks.

Peavey Nitrobass/Max450 or Firebass/Max700 would fit the bill, depending on how you define light.

If you can spend a few more bucks, the Carvin BX 1500 will do 2 ohms, A SIDE ! Great bang for the buck, with alot of options.

Good suggestion. Preamp or VT Bass. Sansamp preamps can be found used for under $200.

I was going to go the power/pre route but now that I know my Magma can fail at any time. I am iffy about using it. I cant in good conscious sell it, nor do I want to send it back to never be returned nor refunded. I might be able to go to $650 or so.

Unless there were bricks in my firebass head, they're around 50lbs give or take..

Buy a used Eden WT405. They go for around $500. 600+ watts at 2 ohms, excellent compression circuit, super-convenient with headphone in, tuner out, preamp loop, separate vol. for DI, etc. etc. Some say it's the best sounding Eden head. I don't know about that, but it certainly strikes me as being the poor man's thunderfunk.

Full disclosure - I have one listed on TB, but have not bumped it in months because, deep down, I really don't want to sell it.

You can get a used iAmp (Euphonic Audio) for your budget, or perhaps a used Acoustic Image amp; they'll handle 2 Ohms.

its a ss/tube hybrid, but the fender bassman 1200 pro does 2 ohms. you can usually find em for $500-$600.

I'm surprised nobody has asked: why 2 ohms?
Do you have a 2 ohm cab?
Or do you have two 4 ohm cabs? If that's the case, you can hook them up so the head sees 8 ohms, or get a stereo power amp that handles 4 ohms on each side.
More options if you expand your search to 4/8 ohm capable heads.
