After seeing many, many basses and amps come and go over the years, I can say that you should forget about it. With a baby on the way, maybe you should think about your needs and forget about all the extras that come and go.

How much is he asking for it? How many diapers will that buy? Yer 30 pack of Huggies is going for around 12 bucks now, which a newborn will go through in about 1/2 hour....
