i no this may sound like a stupid question, but i'm new to this band, is parliment funkadelic one name for a band, or is parliment a band and funkadelic a seperait band?

There was a time when Funkadelic was the more 'guitar/Rock-oriented' brand of Funk.
Parliament was the horn/Soul-keys brand of Funk.

I guess, eventually, both began touring & performing together & P-Funk resulted(?).

Also, Tower of Power is a necessity. (Anyone who is serious about Funk needs to spend some time listeining to Rocco Prestia!) Choosing a "best" selection from their catalog is tough but this one is an excellent starting point:

by Funkadelic. Free Your Mind and Yor Ass will Follow is good too, those are good if you're a big hard-rock fan. But Maggot Brain is an Album everyone should own. For the title track alone at least.
