Some Idiot Stole my Bongo!

A drunk fell on to the stage into the face of a Martin D-28. Behind the D28 was a Gibson SG. The fall totally destroyed the face of the D28 and the SG's neck broke when it hit the drum riser.

The drunk was a lawyer who apologized profusly and wrote the BL who owned the guitars a check for new replacement value. The check cleared.

Luckily, the BL was not the lead guitar. We managed to get through the resto of the night without the guitars.

Ugh!!! That’s horrible!

With so many people recording video on cell phone, perhaps the venue can reach out to those who attended to see if anyone caught video of either the incident, or someone lurking around the stage right before the incident. Ie, in the background of someone’s video or selfie pic?

You could also try offering a reward for the missing bass to that group, and see if it magically turns up.

Of course, contact your home owner’s policy to see if your bass is covered at the event. File a police report. Call local pawn shops and GC to tell them to look out for the stolen bass. Set a notification on Ebay and Craigslist and OfferUp for key words like “Bongo”, or just “black bass”.

Pawn shops are where I'm headed Monday. The area guitar shops are in line to. I'm a nice guy till someone :poop: in my Wheaties.

I spoke to the coordinator. Ive requested a guest list! That's where im starting. There was security around, I did see that. IF it's still here in the area it would surprise me. I have connections in LE in that town so he's on it as well. Like I said, no one saw a thing. It did teach me a lesson! I am rounding up my gigging basses and insuring them as we speak. I guess I'm a dumb ass for not doing it to begin with. Not having a backup bass would have ended the night and a great party too soon.

Good luck finding your Bongo! I have to say, I admire your cool to be able to finish the gig being so upset and disappointed.

We were playing a huge corporate function last night. Roughly 800 folks in a large warehouse, all partying and dancing. We took a break and I got away from the crowd for about 5 minutes. I came back to tune and guess what, my black Bongo 5 was gone from the stand.

I thought maybe it was put in the rack by one of the guys but, nope, gone! As usual, nobody saw a thing! I'm beyond livid. I reported it for all the good that will do. Broke out my backup bass to finish the night. I have the serial # and, my name is under the PG just like all my basses. Nothing outstanding about it other than it's in pristine condition. We were in a large city so not much chance of finding it. I will do what I have to try an find it.
Can you post a pic of the Bongo 5 in question so those of us who do a lot of internet dumpster diving for bass stuff will recognize it straight away?

Bizarre. Really sorry to hear that.

How does someone get on stage and then sneak out of the venue carrying a bass guitar? Possible they stashed it onsite to uplift later, which would suggest staff theft rather than a punter.

Thanks for posting to warn everyone. Ideally the venue would indemnify you and/or confirm what security they have before the gig.

Just an FYI. After the gig and load out the whole band checked inside and out. No one even saw a camera at the warehouse. It was in an industrial park, no houses, just businesses. Monday I'm going to neighboring businesses to see if they will check their cameras unless LE has already been there. I figure he would call me if he had. LE involved is my nephew so that's a plus.

Thank you all for the kind words!!! I'm still sick to my stomach about it. If something changes, I sure will let y'all know. This is bad enough but, I'm glad it wasn't my Stambaugh that's in my sight pic. Horse has left the barn but, my gigging basses will be insured next week.

Being a corporate gig, they should find out which guest or hired help stole it. If they can't find it, they should compensate you. I'm assuming the party was NOT open to the public. No video cameras on the premises or outside?
This is my position as well.

A private event not open to the public, the thief had to be someone affiliated with either the venue or the company that hired the band.

They should be on the hook to make the OP whole again.

Start calling or checking pawnshops, also Craigslist, eBay and FB marketplace. Amazing how stuff like that gets posted right after a theft
Regardless, good luck…

I did this when I had ~$3Gs worth of pedals stolen. Sent pics and everything. Fast forward a few months later and I noticed for sale posts of my gear on the GC website listed at location closest to where it was stolen. They were sold listings that still remained up. I called, explained and asked to speak to someone. They never called me back.

Sorry to the OP, this poopie sucks.

I'm surprised the band finished the gig. I would have got on the mike and said that when on break someone stole the bass and ask for anyone who may have seen anything to come forward. I also would have got the person who booked the gig to call the cops and to start a search. Possibly even search all the vehicles. Totally unacceptable for this type of gig IMHO. 100% on the company that hired you to make it right, again IMHO.
