Some Idiot Stole my Bongo!

I’m sorry to hear. Never break out a backup if something goes missing, the entire show is immediately over unless the crowd nabs the stolen goods and tunes up the thief. Really the crowd deserves your time but NOBODY saw a bass go stolen off stage? Ok.
A mere band member may not be in a position to make that call; sure, it’s a heinous situation, and you deserve sympathy(and justice), but some events are structured where you’re not going to have the clout to halt the proceedings.

An event like that should be, and I believe is, responsible for insuring the equipment is safe in the venue, especially on stage.

I'm generalizing a bit here but,

It is super sad to me someone who has a 9-5 job, presuming they make OK money might of stole your bass. Disgusting and makes me upset.

As with all the posters has said, and as a user who is thinking of becoming a paralegal, get all law and other things ASAP and all the above with insurance. Best of luck man. Keep us posted please.

I came back to tune and guess what, my black Bongo 5 was gone from the stand.

If this serves as consolation, I had an awesome 70's natural Jazz Bass stolen at a CHURCH function.
Needless to say, I never step a foot there and every time I drive by I feel like puking. PS: After learning the hard way, I started insuring my instruments.

I spoke to the coordinator. Ive requested a guest list! That's where im starting. There was security around, I did see that. IF it's still here in the area it would surprise me. I have connections in LE in that town so he's on it as well. Like I said, no one saw a thing. It did teach me a lesson! I am rounding up my gigging basses and insuring them as we speak. I guess I'm a dumb ass for not doing it to begin with. Not having a backup bass would have ended the night and a great party too soon.
Dunno. In an event like that maybe you all should have packed up and left after announcing that someone stole your equipment and you can’t continue. That’s a significant loss on the order of and possibly more than your payment.

Make sure to check the policy really good. Most Valuable Property policies won’t cover gear being used at a location to generate income. These policies have to be Business related policies, etc…

maybe I misunderstood but stealing somebody's tools is never OK. No matter how much money you make.

And to the OP I hope you'll get your instrument back.

It's never ok. My point is, it is sad someone who probably could afford their own decided to just take one.
Not defending any form of stealing maybe I did miswords there but it is just sad no matter what.

We were playing a huge corporate function last night. Roughly 800 folks in a large warehouse, all partying and dancing. We took a break and I got away from the crowd for about 5 minutes. I came back to tune and guess what, my black Bongo 5 was gone from the stand.

I thought maybe it was put in the rack by one of the guys but, nope, gone! As usual, nobody saw a thing! I'm beyond livid. I reported it for all the good that will do. Broke out my backup bass to finish the night. I have the serial # and, my name is under the PG just like all my basses. Nothing outstanding about it other than it's in pristine condition. We were in a large city so not much chance of finding it. I will do what I have to try a ’,,,find it.

I’ll keep an eye out here on the St. Louis Craig’s list and Facebook postings.

I have a few other descriptive words to describe the thief, most not suitable for this forum… Sorry for your loss.

That really does suck. A lot of the corp events we play are at places where there are other events or parties going on at the same time so there can be a lot of general public or unrelated people roaming about. That and festivals are where these things seem to happen the most. In a bar it's easy to go to the back of the room between sets and keep an eye on things. I feel badly for you and hope you can recover such a fine bass.
