Some Idiot Stole my Bongo!

Props to you for finishing the gig after your bass was stolen. I don’t know if I would be able to. People will say “be professional”, but how can I finish my work if my tools are stolen?

I had a scare once. There were like 4 bands in this venue and we were first. After we’re done I left and came back couple hours later. My MIM P was gone. Luckily, I found it on the opposite side of the building. Maybe someone moved it, maybe someone tried to steal it… I don’t know.

I really hope you find your bass in the same condition it was before being stolen.

Sorry to hear this, these days I’m much more cautious and keeping a closer eye on my gear at all times, especially when loading in from the car making sure I lock it and windows are up no matter how close I am to the stage. Crime is more out of control and without consequences and criminals are empowered… unfortunately police won’t respond just short of gunfire.

We were playing a huge corporate function last night. Roughly 800 folks in a large warehouse, all partying and dancing. We took a break and I got away from the crowd for about 5 minutes. I came back to tune and guess what, my black Bongo 5 was gone from the stand.

I thought maybe it was put in the rack by one of the guys but, nope, gone! As usual, nobody saw a thing! I'm beyond livid. I reported it for all the good that will do. Broke out my backup bass to finish the night. I have the serial # and, my name is under the PG just like all my basses. Nothing outstanding about it other than it's in pristine condition. We were in a large city so not much chance of finding it. I will do what I have to try a find it.
Start calling or checking pawnshops, also Craigslist, eBay and FB marketplace. Amazing how stuff like that gets posted right after a theft
Regardless, good luck…

I feel your frustration and rage. I’ve had gear stolen before and it leaves me with a sick feeling. I take it very personally.

Also, in one of my early bands when I had bad taste in basses, someone broke into our rehearsal space and stole every single guitar in the room…except for my bass. I took that very personally too.

Go back to the venue and walk the outside (if you haven’t already) and look specifically for security cameras. Generally only the people looking to dodge them know where they are. Check the neighboring buildings as well. I was in the security tech field for a bit and you’d be amazed how many “neighbor” video systems help sites that don’t have their own systems.

There are very few places left that don’t have a security video system. Even a neighboring business may have footage of the person walking away with it. It’s pretty hard to conceal a bass. I’m still looking for my 1975 Rickenbacker 4001, stolen in 1982.

Say wha???? that's insane..... of all the stuff you could grab and run with, they chose a Bongo!!!! They're big, stick out like a sore thumb. Its hard to envision a crack head thief running down the road with a big old shiny Bongo. So surely the parking lot cameras will show some lowlife shoving a Bongo in their car?.... And nobody seen somebody walking around with a bass during break? You'd think they'd notice that. This all doesn't add up. Now if it mysteriously just shows up a couple days from now. That means the band hates your Bongo, swiped it and hid it on ya. Now they hope you'll never let it out of the house again.
